In questo articolo spiegheremo perché non riuscite a trovare il file .htaccess sul vostro sito WordPress e vi mostreremo come individuarlo.
Cos’è il file .htaccess?
Il file .htaccess è un file di configurazione del server che indica al server come gestire determinate operazioni sul vostro sito web. Si trova nella cartella principale del vostro sito WordPress.org.
Alcuni compiti che questo file PHP può svolgere sono la gestione dei link permanenti, il reindirizzamento degli utenti, la protezione con password dell’area di amministrazione e altro ancora. Consideratelo come un manuale di istruzioni per il vostro server web.
Perché il file .htaccess è mancante?
È possibile che non si riesca a trovare il file .htaccess perché potrebbe essere nascosto dal proprio FTP o file manager. Oppure non esiste e potrebbe essere necessario aggiornare le impostazioni dei permalink.
Spiegheremo entrambi gli scenari con le soluzioni per individuare il file. Utilizzate pure questi collegamenti rapidi per passare a uno scenario specifico:
Scenario 1: il vostro FTP o File Manager non mostra i file nascosti
Il punto prima del nome del file .htaccess indica che si tratta di un file nascosto. Per impostazione predefinita, quando vi connettete al vostro server di hosting WordPress utilizzando un client FTP, questo non mostrerà i file nascosti.
Per rendere visibili i file nascosti, è necessario modificare le impostazioni FTP.
In FileZilla, questa opzione è disponibile facendo clic sulla voce di menu “Server” e selezionando “Forza la visualizzazione dei file nascosti”.
Per altri client FTP, troverete l’opzione per mostrare i file nascosti nelle impostazioni dell’applicazione o nel menu delle preferenze. Dopo aver attivato questa opzione, sarete in grado di visualizzare tutti i file nascosti, compreso il file .htaccess del vostro sito WordPress.
Chi utilizza l’applicazione File Manager nel pannello di controllo dell’account di hosting troverà l’opzione per mostrare i file nascosti.
Se il vostro provider di web hosting utilizza cPanel, potete fare clic sul pulsante “Impostazioni” nell’angolo in alto a destra.
Scenario 2: il file .htaccess non esiste
La seconda ragione più comune per la mancanza di un file .htaccess è che il vostro sito WordPress non lo ha ancora generato.
WordPress genera automaticamente un file .htaccess perché è necessario per reindirizzare correttamente i permalink.
Se il file .htaccess è assente, la prima cosa da fare è visitare Impostazioni ” Permalinks dalla dashboard di WordPress. Quindi, fate clic sul pulsante “Salva modifiche” senza modificare le impostazioni della struttura dei permalink.
WordPress cercherà ora di generare il file .htaccess per voi.
In alcuni casi, WordPress potrebbe non essere in grado di generare il file .htaccess a causa di un problema di permessi del file. In tal caso, nella parte inferiore della pagina Impostazioni ” Permalinks “ verrà visualizzato un messaggio che indica che il file “.htaccess non è scrivibile “.
È necessario creare manualmente un nuovo file .htaccess e aggiungere al suo interno il seguente frammento di codice:

È sufficiente copiare e incollare questo codice in un editor di testo come Notepad. Successivamente, è necessario salvarlo come file .htaccess sul desktop.
Ora, collegatevi al vostro sito web utilizzando un client FTP e caricate il file .htaccess dal vostro desktop.
Se si verifica un errore durante il caricamento del file, è necessario modificare l’autorizzazione del file per la directory principale.
Supponiamo che tutti i file di WordPress siano sotto /home/johnsmith/public_html/. In questo modo la cartella public_html diventa la vostra directory principale. È necessario andare nella cartella madre e fare clic con il pulsante destro del mouse sulla cartella public_html.
Selezionate quindi “Autorizzazioni file”, che aprirà una finestra di dialogo sulle autorizzazioni dei file.
È necessario inserire ‘755’ nella casella ‘Valore numerico’ e poi provare a caricare il file .htaccess nella cartella public_html.

hi. I tried to see if the file was hidden. This didn’t start showing .htaccess. I then went to permalinks and saved changes (even tried updating some settings and updating again) a few times. I didn’t get any text from WP. It just accepted the changes. I still can’t see the htaccess file.
Not sure why this is happening. Can you please help.

hey there,
I followed the instructions step by step, however I still cannot find the .htaccess -.-
when I create one on my mac with text pad (or should I use word doc?) and try to paste it via ftp (filezilla) in the ” / ” folder but it still does’nt work.
The links on my wordpress shows “404 Not Found nginx”

You may want to ensure you don’t have a file extension on the end of your .htaccess file as that is one of the more common reasons it does not work.

This probably worked once, but no longer. No message appears on the Permalinks page when you save it. Show Hidden Files in FileZilla doesn’t reveal the .htaccess file. Pretty much useless from the get-go.

If your web hosting server is using a different software like Windows or Nginx then you may not be able ot find .htaccess file.

The permalinks solution didn’t work for me either.
In cPanel I have a page that will allow me to edit 403 (forbidden) but when I click on the code to edit I’m absolutely lost which is very annoying as I’m sure it must be easy to do, if only I knew how!
Can anyone explain please?

Hi!
I am new to wordpress and have set up my wordpress site this weekend. To ensure it is safe, I followed the htaccess/htpasswd settings today and all worked fine.
After some hours, I could not access my wordpress site anymore but get the error message
[Tue Nov 01 20:31:36 2016] [authn_file:error] [pid 26428] [client xxx.xxx.xx.xxx] [host xxx.xxx.de] AH01620: Could not open password file: /XXX.htpasswd
How can I overcome this issue?

Hey.. I played around with WP rocket and cleared my .htaccess – Now i am missing elements and sections of my webpage. I have tired to disable minifying. But still nothing happens.

Having tried the above I still can’t see my htacess file and I do not get the message saying not rewritable under permalinks. Can anybody help, I’ve been getting the 500 Internal Server Error for two days now and am desperate to update to the latest version of WordPress. My site is slow and shows the message frequently. Solved: Yesterday I started my second wp site, all went well until I noticed that all permalink options didn`t work except the default one, every time I changed to another permalink structure, I received the famous 404 error. I cross referanced with my first wp site, and noticed that the web.config file was not in the root. Obviously I copied and pasted the web.config file from my first site to my new site, refreshed and now all permalinks work fine.

It’s worth pointing out that your .htaccess file might be missing because you don’t need one. For instance the Nginx web server doesn’t use .htaccess files for security and performance reasons.

I had occasion to look around for some redirection plugins for WP, and I noticed that some implement “hit counters.” I suspect all of them have to put something in the .htaccess file. I would love to see an article that goes into more depth on redirection, link cloaking, and hit counters.

Isnt it easier co create .htacces right in cPanel (if you dont have it) rather than saving in notepad and uploading via ftp?
I think that way is more easier and faster.
