number of submissions
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic
Description | number of submissions, e.g., submitted papers to a conference |
---|---|
Data type | Quantity |
Example 1 | Neural Information Processing Systems 2023 (Q122813149) -> 13,330 |
Example 2 | Thirty-sixth Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (Q112748675) -> 9,634 |
Example 3 | Thirty-fifth Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (Q107942154) -> 9,122 |
Motivation
[edit]To model scientific events we have a number of properties in use. I cannot find properties suitable to represent the number of paper submissions nor number of accepted papers. We (@NandanaM: among others) would like to add such information, so here is the suggestion for a "number of submissions" property. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 08:34, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- For the parallel proposal about number of accepted contributions, see Wikidata:Property proposal/number of accepted contributions. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 08:45, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Support Sure - are we limiting this to conferences (journals get submissions too but I'm not sure how you would count them since it's sort of continual)? ArthurPSmith (talk) 19:12, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- I suppose it is most relevant for conferences and workshops. For journals the number is probably not available. If available it would be over a period, e.g., year. I do not know whether there would be other types where "number of submissions" would be relevant? Song competitions? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 15:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment If the property is not constrained to single events, then the handling for journals must be made explicit, e.g. "(for journals, number is per year)" in the description. Also a reference constraint is probably advisable. Swpb (talk) 20:28, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Would the issue with journals not be possible with qualifiers? For instance point in time (P585)? A reference constraint would probably be a good idea. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 15:41, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Fnielsen: So you would be relying on the precision of the point in time (P585) value (year, month, etc.) to infer the length of time of the submission window? When at the same time, point in time (P585) is being used to qualify the, well, point in time at which the statement value is correct? That's very squirrely to me. If anything, I'd use duration (P2047), but I still think that requires some explanation with, at least, Wikidata usage instructions (P2559). Swpb (talk) 15:59, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support NandanaM (talk) 03:25, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Fnielsen, ArthurPSmith, Swpb, NandanaM: Done as number of submissions (P12655). Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 07:15, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
