The following is the holiday and special events operation schedule, including building closures for inclement weather, for the Library of Congress for December 2024 through January 2025:

Tuesday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve)
Wednesday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day)
All Library buildings will be CLOSED.

The Library’s public spaces and reading rooms will operate as usual during its regular hours Thursday, Dec. 26 through Monday, Dec. 30.

Tuesday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve)
Buildings will be open to visitors with timed-entry passes. All Library of Congress reading rooms will close at 5 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 (New Year’s Day)
All Library buildings will be CLOSED.

Friday, Jan. 3, 2025
All Library buildings on the Capitol Hill campus will be CLOSED.

Monday, Jan. 6, 2025
Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025
All Library buildings on the Capitol Hill campus will be CLOSED due to inclement weather.

Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025
All Library buildings will be CLOSED in recognition of the National Day of Mourning to honor the passing of President Jimmy Carter.

Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025
In anticipation of weather conditions and out of an abundance of caution, the Library will DELAY OPENING its reading rooms until 10 a.m. All other public spaces will open as usual at at 10 a.m.

Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025
All Library buildings will be CLOSED.

Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday/Presidential Inauguration)
All Library buildings will be CLOSED.

In addition, the Library's Thursday night "Live at the Library" programming is canceled for Jan. 2, Jan. 9 and Jan. 16.

Operations may be curtailed or suspended in the event of inclement weather, and the Library will issue special notices in that event.
