Congratulations to Marolo Alfaro for winning the Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba 2024 Technical Excellence Award. His work spans geosynthetics, ground improvement and permafrost engineering as well as stabilizing Winnipeg's riverbanks and protecting the city's century-old aqueduct from ground vibrations. "Winning this award is a recognition of my team's excellent work in translating research findings into simple theories and procedures for engineers to apply. The award validates our contribution to the engineering profession as well as service to the public." Alfaro plans to continue to inspire students to be a force for positive change in society through teaching two courses related to this inspiring work.
