Working toward a world free of infectious disease.
About us
The Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDSâ¯Policy (OIDP) provides strategic leadership and management, while encouraging collaboration, coordination, and innovation among federal agencies and stakeholders to reduce the burden of infectious diseases. We work with federal and non-federal stakeholders to develop, coordinate, and implement national strategies and initiatives to prevent infectious diseases. We prioritize health equity and use a syndemics lens across all our work. We strive to ensure our programs and information that we share are accessible to everyone and meet the needs of populations who are underserved and disproportionately affected by infectious diseases. Our health equity work is grounded in respect for all populations, using an inclusive and participatory approach, and in framing health equity as very achievable across our portfolio. The OIDP syndemics lens recognizes that social and structural factors as well as inequities can allow health conditions and diseases to cluster and interact within populations. We use a people-centered approach in our work to foster a whole-person approach to improve health outcomes. Some of the topics addressed by our office include the following: -Antibiotic resistance -Blood and tissue safety and availability -HIV and AIDS -Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) -Tick-borne diseases -Vaccines and immunization -Viral hepatitis The Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP) is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), Office of the Secretary (OS), and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The 2021â2023 Progress Report for the Sexually Transmitted Infections National Strategic Plan for the United States (2021â2025) is in!  The data indicate that the United States continues to make progress and was on track to meet or exceed 2025 targets to reduce gonorrhea rate overall and among African American and Black populations. Weâre also making strides toward increasing the percentage of adolescents who receive the routinely recommended doses of the HPV vaccine, increasing chlamydia screening in sexually active young women, reducing the primary and secondary (P&S) syphilis rate among gay, bisexual, and MSM, and reducing gonorrhea rates in the South.  Despite this progress, the United States is failing to meet 2025 targets and is moving in the opposite direction to reduce P&S syphilis rates overall, reduce congenital syphilis rates, and increase condom use among sexually active MSM high school students.  This report includes the following information: ⢠At-a-glance table of overall progress on the indicators based on the most recent data ⢠Highlights of federal actions undertaken during FY 2021â2023 ⢠Challenges and next steps ⢠Tables of each indicator and progress toward 2025 targets  View the full report for more details: https://lnkd.in/grCcXu5vÂ
