I watched Encanto over Christmas. I knew nothing about it when I noticed it on the Disney channel. I can’t tell you how much I love that film! The songs, the colours, the characters, the language.

One of the songs that I’ve seen people talking about online is Surface Pressure. It’s sung by the character Luiza and captures so much of the weight we can feel when we have to show up in a certain energy or with a certain strength. We can’t even think of what the consequences would be because it is completely unquestionable that we continue giving out and even breaking ourselves to meet other people’s expectations.

This came to my mind this week when I was being interviewed for a podcast where I was sharing my story of going through catastrophic burnout and a breakdown 12 years ago in my corporate career.

I was so fixed on showing up in that role in the way that I felt I had to, and I put myself under so much pressure. The result was that I hit burnout. For a while it felt like my life had imploded.

This is one of the reasons that it’s really important for us to get comfortable with seven figures as a concept, and absolutely as something that can be a reality for woman-owned businesses.

As a high achiever, you may have done everything you’ve ever achieved through your own hard work and pressure. School exams, uni exams, your corporate career. You’ve put in the blood, sweat and tears and you have the accolades to show for it.

And this is very likely the same energy that you brought or even that you are bringing to your consulting business. We get results by working hard.

This brings about a very specific problem when it comes to visualising the path from the low six figures to seven figures. You look at how much work it’s been to get where you are, and you think ‘I cannot possibly increase the volume of work I’m doing any more’, therefore seven figures feels impossible.

But most of the struggle when it comes to thinking bigger isn’t external, it’s internal. It’s that internal voice that starts to freak out and tell you that everything you’re trying to do is impossible. And also gets kind of angry that you would even consider it.

Secondly, if you’re preparing to grow your business by increasing your volume of work then this will feel daunting. This is why I always advocate increasing the value of work in your business, not just the volume.

It means raising your prices, raising your game. Shooting for higher level clients and not just taking on more low paid work.

If you’re feeling surface pressure and you’re a woman consultant with a business in the low to mid six figures and you’re looking for support, inspiration, and accountability on the road to seven figures, then I have a truly amazing group called the Seven Figures Club.

What I really love about this group is being able to hold space for each of the women in the group as they grow and progress on the journey to 7 figures. Every time we meet, it’s for real talk about the things that shift and change in your mindset and your business as you grow. Not just the usual marketing content that a lot of groups cover, but how to keep on working on your mindset, how to find and hire the right team members, how to embed company culture, firing clients who aren’t a fit any more, how to charge at your highest worth, how to win back your time and create time freedom in your weekly schedule - and giving yourself permission to work less hours in the first place.

If that sounds like a group you want to be part of, head to jessicafearnley.com and fill out the application form on my Work With Me page .

Let me know in the comments, what’s your favourite song right now?

I've created a free PDF report called The Six Elements of a Seven Figure Business. It’s my most popular free resource and in it I outline the 6 areas of unscaled businesses that need to change in order to move past being ‘booked up and burned out’ and shifting into that higher gear that gets you cruising again.

It’s the framework that helps consultant women like you find their feet and get back to leading the business, rather than being buried in client work and back-end business operations.

Sign up here for your PDF report, and I'll show you the six elements your consultancy needs to make the shift from a nice little 6-figure lifestyle business to a serious 7-figure enterprise.

Love so much about this article and the pressure song from Encanto. But there’s also pressure from the busy mom trying to make it to the six-figure while balancing everything in the household. Curious sometimes paying someone to clean the house is not in the budget, not part of the hard costs and being very mindful of groceries menu planning and cooking , keeping expenditures down and balancing our time. Just thoughts, love your newsletters

Haha I’m so glad to see you writing about this. Everyone is not talking about Bruno but the song that caught my attention was Surface Pressure. As an only child and soon-to-be consultant, it resonated. But wait If I could shake the crushing weight of expectations Would that free some room up for joy Or relaxation, or simple pleasure? Instead we measure this growing pressure Keeps growing, keep going 'Cause all we know i
