When Digital and Physical Unite

When Digital and Physical Unite

My short post today should give just enough information to make some wheels turn.

It is obvious that the digital world rules when it comes to product development, engineering design, development, and testing. But there is always a disconnect to our physical world. We have FEA, CAE, Virtual Assembly, Virtual Machining, and the list goes on and on. All of these aspects utilize something that came from the physical world regarding shape, features, durability, movement, change, strength, etc. The product is always driven through a series of "what if" scenarios without actually performing the "what if's". That is great for time savings, costs, but it just doesn't reach the knowledge observed from any real time analysis.

In my world, 3D scanning and 3D Measurement, there are more and more occurrences where the digital world and physical world can co-exist, in real time. An artist can now see how slight changes can affect design or performance in real time. Developers are utilizing 3D tools to envelope themselves inside the digital world during physical world testing. The 3D tools have enhanced our ability to address the "what if" scenarios faster and with more precision.

I empower you to think about 3D technology and how it has brought us closer to reality.
