Wellness at Work Works: How employers are handling Post-Isolation Anxiety in the workplace

As we approach Labor Day weekend, for many businesses, this date marks a much anticipated “Return to Work” day milestone.  However, as businesses begin to transition back to a pre-pandemic life (if that’s even possible), employers are seeing an increased level of anxiety from their employees about returning to the office.  While some are ready to conduct business face to face, others are experiencing stress, fear and worry after spending over a year in isolation and working remotely.  These emotions are real and impact everyone differently, but no level of anxiety in anyone should be overlooked or ignored.

These employers are recognizing that “Screen fatigue" (or “Zoom Fatigue”) is a prevalent reality. Most face-to-face meetings were replaced digitally as have social events outside of the workplace such as cocktail parties and family get togethers.  Studies prove that increased blue light exposure from computers and smart phones can directly influence one’s sleep/wake cycles. Blue light reduces melatonin in the body which can lead to daytime fatigue, stress, lack of energy and productivity among other health implications.  These are all things employers need to consider when transitioning their business back post pandemic.

While there may be a sense of relief and celebration to be able to put on real pants and return to work in person, employees are fatigued and anxious over post isolation anticipation. Businesses experienced a drastic shift in company culture during the pandemic and in some cases, a complete decimation, directly impacting its employees. Developing and rebuilding a company’s culture post-pandemic is a delicate process and careful consideration of the stages of reintegration of all employees is paramount.

Because of this, more businesses are implementing wellness programs to help reintegrate and rebuild company culture.  Exhale’s Corporate Wellness Programs are custom designed to suit the unique needs of each of our business partners. Our team works with the leadership and human resources departments of the organization to help identify areas of need.

We begin by conducting a survey creating a metric to measure levels of stress, health, happiness, and productivity. With the survey results we return with a wellness program custom-tailored to specifically improve the company’s employee engagement score.

The goal is to guide employees toward better work-life balance and companies toward increased employee satisfaction and productivity. Research shows that when employees believe their organization cares about their health and well-being there is 38% more employee engagement.

Our solutions help employees manage change in a healthy and positive manner to sustain a productive and happy work life. Our passion at Exhale Wellness is creating opportunities for companies, and the people that work within them, to achieve balanced, happy lives.
