Useful Reminder of Building Credible Leadership

Useful Reminder of Building Credible Leadership

Saw this ( https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/great-leadership-influence-authority-mike-kaeding/?trk=eml-email_feed_ecosystem_digest_01-recommended_articles-10-Unknown&midToken=AQF-Tz2GlwSabg&fromEmail=fromEmail&ut=3BCOaD44rvcEo1) elsewhere this morning and the article is a useful reminder of the balance required to really lead an organisation. positional power is all very well, but the ability to lead effectively, in the end, comes from having people want to follow. Why would they give this gift? Because they see the benefit and are attracted to play their part.

It reminds me of an occasion when working with an organisation that had lost its major client that constituted 50% of sales. Inevitably this meant redundancies. What was humbling was towards the end of one of the individual redundancy conversations - the gentleman said that he was obviously very sad to be selected for redundancy but wanted us to know that as soon as things recovered to get in touch and he would immediately come back. Why, he was asked? The answer was that he had never been treated so well as through this process, where he felt valued as a human being and saw that we genuinely cared for him and his family.

A priceless learning.
