Understanding Burnout: What It Is and How It Affects You
In todayâs society, many of us find ourselves walking the tightrope between meeting lifeâs demands and burning out. As a conscious entrepreneur and advocate for holistic well-being, I understand the importance of addressing burnout and the impact it can have on our lives.Â
So what is burnout, and what are its physical symptoms? Here weâll explore some of the burnout signs, how to deal with burnout and how to prevent it. Weâll look at maintaining the balance between inspiration and the risk of losing our spirit, as well as some techniques for rest and relaxation.Â
What is Burnout?Â
Burnout is a state of total exhaustion. Too often, the term âburnoutâ is used in place of what is really stress, fatigue, overwhelm, running on empty. The flame has gone. The match has turned to ash. SPIRIT HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!
If you are experiencing burnout, then you are not living the life your soul intended. You are not âInSpiritâ and there is no INSPIRATION. Because if you were living the life your soul intended and living your life INSPIRIT and INSPIRED, then you will tap into unbridled energy. Sure, as a human body we all need to rest and recover and rejuvenate, but the fire still burns because we are living the life our soul intended.
So if you are experiencing true burn out in your job or in your relationship, itâs time to leave.
Signs You Are Burnt OutÂ
Are you waking up to a barrage of bad days, where every ounce of effort seems futile? If caring about your work or personal life feels draining, if exhaustion has become your constant companion, you could be experiencing burnout, and it is time for self-care.Â
When each day becomes an uphill battle, itâs time to look inward to ask yourself what you need. Recognizing the signs of burnout isnât just an act of acknowledgment, but also an opportunity to embark on a journey towards rejuvenation and the rediscovery of a more balanced existence.Â
Here weâll look at some of the most common burn out symptoms â from the physical to the emotional and mental.Â
Physical Symptoms of BurnoutÂ
The journey into burnout unfolds gradually, often revealing subtle signs that, if ignored, can escalate. The body, a vessel of sacred wisdom, communicates its distress through a series of signs and symptoms, including:Â
These arenât just physical manifestations of whatâs going on inside; they are profound invitations, beckoning us to embark on the journey of healing. These symptoms gently prompt you to take notice, encouraging a reassessment and alignment with a state of emotional and mental well-being.Â
Mental Burnout SymptomsÂ
As burnout sets in, you may experience a sense of failure and a fog of self-doubt. Your spirit may feel trapped and defeated. Creativity wanes, emotional detachment sets in, and it can be hard to make decisions. Impaired judgment and a lack of motivation further characterise mental burnout.Â
Itâs important to notice the difference between inspiration and not being âin-spiritâ, when our spirit has left the body. Such mental exhaustion requires a gentle yet deliberate unravelling of our thoughts, an alignment of mental energies, and a reconnection with inspiration.Â

Emotional Exhaustion SymptomsÂ
Our emotions also shoulder the weight of burnoutâs impact. When you experience detachment, a sense of isolation, and a lack of motivation, you may find yourself navigating a state of negativity.Â
Itâs crucial to acknowledge these emotions as messengers, signalling a need for introspection and guiding you back to the path of emotional fulfillment and authenticity. Embracing these signals can be the first step towards rejuvenation and a renewed sense of well-being.Â
The Impact of Burnout on Mental HealthÂ
With all of this going on, itâs no wonder that burnout can impact our mental health. A prevailing sense of helplessness, a pervasive pessimistic outlook, and a diminishing sense of accomplishment all serve as indicators of an impending mental health challenge.Â
This is where the need for burnout self care comes in. I truly believe that recognising burnout is the first step towards reclaiming your vitality. Itâs important to know that its intensity only lasts a short amount of time, and to allow yourself to rest so that you can restore your inner balance.Â
By understanding the relationship between mental health and burnout, one can unlock avenues for healing, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose.Â
How to Prevent BurnoutÂ
Preventing burnout is an act of conscious living, in the daily cultivation of a life aligned with purpose and joy. Set boundaries, say no when needed, and prioritize inner peace and wellbeing.
Reframe your perspective on work, finding joy in the small things. Embrace creativity and conversation, neutralise the harmful effects of artificial EMFâs by connecting with nature, and engage in activities that nourish your spirit.
How to Deal with BurnoutÂ
So what is the cure for burn out? BURN IN. To do that which lights up your soul so that you can burn in (be BURNINâ, because you are now doing the work you love which sets your soul on fire).
Itâs time for burnout self care. Rest, reward yourself, and engage in practices that support healing. Turning to others for support becomes a transformative act. Reach out to loved ones, friends, and colleagues, fostering connections that become beacons of light in moments of darkness.Â
This interconnectedness becomes a powerful tool in navigating burnout. This is also something I discuss in my various workshops and retreats .Â

2wAn insightful article highlighting the complexity of burnout. In my experience there is often a critical gap in translating these insights into actionable prevention strategies. The data is clear - burnout manifests through physical, mental, and emotional symptoms, as you've comprehensively outlined. However, what's particularly concerning is that while companies excel at gathering this information through various assessment tools, there's frequently a lack of structured response. This raises a question for organizations: How do you transform your burnout detection data into concrete action plans? Would be interested in hearing both successful and less successful intervention strategies that go beyond detection to actual prevention.
