Is Slow Metabolism your answer for gaining weight?

What sabotages your body’s ability to shed down your weight scale? 

The first action most people take when they start any weight loss diet is cutting back on their calorie intake. Unfortunately, at the starting point, most individuals are nutritionally depleted and overstressed. Cutting back on calories pushes your biological mechanisms by reducing the circulation of several hormone levels, growth factors and cytokines, which alerts underlying causes that may lead to anticancer effects, negative signaling pathways, inflammation, cellular and systemic homeostasis pathways. This can lead to higher health risks such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, along with many other ailments like sleep apnea, high blood pressure, joint problems, and grave impacts on psychological well-being.

 When you obtain fewer calories than what your body needs (at least 1200 calories per day for women and 1500 to 1700 for men) your metabolism will slow down to reserve the needed energy for normal cellular function. Typically, the average person cuts about 20% to 40% of their total energy intake, which is about in average of 300 to 600 calories per day. In fact, the phenomena of regaining the weight we lose support my clinical observation: the simple model of creating a negative energy balance by reducing caloric consumption and/or increasing physical activity is not effective. 

The research shows that about 80-95% of people will regain their weight loss 3 to 4 months after they start a low carbohydrate diet. In most cases they will end up heavier compared to their starting point. 

In fact, the phenomena of regaining the weight we lose support my clinical observation: the simple model of creating a negative energy balance by reducing caloric consumption and/or increasing physical activity is not effective. 

On a self-weight loss dieting program, many people will cut back an average of 300 to 600 calories per day. This means your intake is below the recommended daily caloric requirement which will affect your metabolic rate.  

Signs like irritation, decreased body temperature, low energy, and hunger due to slow metabolic rate will be present. The need for sweets, salt, fat foods, and carbohydrates will increase as your body will try to balance its energy levels. 

When you get hungry, you may lose control on the quality and the quantity of the foods you consume. Keeping weight at a healthy level requires eating whole dense foods, full of macro and micro nutrients that balance your well-being. 

Simple as it sounds, you might want to nourish your body with more calories coming from foods that your body can tolerate so you could function better, inhibit potential diseases and lose weight while keeping a healthy lifestyle.

The effect of slow metabolic rate on your body lasts longer than the period you are dieting and cutting back on food. Surprisingly, the negative effects last even if you regain your weight back.

The metabolism damage can last for months and in extreme cases even for years. People can develop “weight loss resistance”, chronic fatigue, immune suppression, food or environmental sensitiveness or allergies, malnutrition, sleep apnea, hormonal imbalance like thyroid, adrenal, insulin and sex hormones that require even longer period of time to reverse and balance it.
