Sh*t My Chatbot Receives
Recently, I started running some Facebook Ads for my agency.
And it got a lot of attention. (It got SO much attention that Facebook banned the ad, because of the men leaving inappropriate comments on my ad for no reason.)
Itâs called being a woman in business on the internet in 2019.
And thought Iâd share with you some of the down-right strange things my Facebook Messenger chatbot receivesâ¦
Because sometimes, humans are PLAIN weird.
I mean, I wasnât expecting any of this.
Well, I did anticipate maybe a few creepers saying âhey babyâ but then things took an unexpected turn in the DMs.
And, well, you can see for yourselfâ¦
ðð¼Exhibit A: This guy, who had his profile pic as the Joker, who canât quite grasp command of the English language. But props to him for trying.
ðð¼Exhibit B: This guy, who doesnât get the concept of a first date. P.S. I felt like this one just got out of prison or something?? I donât know.
ðð¼Exhibit C: *internally screaming*
ðð¼Exhibit D: This guy, flexing with his truck⦠I just⦠I canât. I mean, why??
ðð¼Exhibit E: This guy, flexing a photo of Benjamins, clearly ripped from Google Image Search.

And then there were the comments on the adâ¦
ðð¼Exhibit F: This guy, who reminded me of that Senate enquiry into Facebook and Cambridge Analytica. âWe run ads, Senator.â
ðð¼Exhibit G: Iâve saved the best for last! This guy, flexing with his horse. Yes, this was a comment left on my Facebook Ad.
Probably one of the reasons Facebook banned it. Some of the men thought this was Facebook Dating or something. ð

So, what did I learn (apart from there are crazy people out there who post photos flexing their horse)?
1. I learned that keywords are your friends!
I created some keywords that I never thought Iâd have to⦠including âbra, panties, stockings, pantyhoseâ and then creating an Action to automatically unsubscribe them.
So it went: person types keyword, bot responses with âIâm a chatbot, and my mum says Iâm not allowed to date,â and then the bot automatically unsubscribes them.
2. My Facebook Ad targeting for this ad needed a little more refining.
Back to the drawing board.
3. Facebook is discriminatory.
Yes, my ad was banned, saying it was âsexually explicitâ because *gasp!* my dress revealed my leg in my ManyChat award win photo (yes, I have thick thighs when I sit down, Facebook â get over it!)
Not because the men are creepers and should have been banned for leaving such comments, which triggered Facebookâs review system.
And thatâs a wrap!
