I stepped outside for my morning walk and passed an elderly couple holding hands. It was obvious how much they were in love by the way they looked at each other. Despite their age, the man’s eyes twinkled when he glanced down at his wife. He said aloud, “She’s still the same girl I met in high school.” The woman burst out laughing and we exchanged a morning ‘hello’. Encountering this lovely couple reminded me of the magic of seeing the beauty in everyone.

You may recall the saying that people come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. The people who enter our lives for a reason come to assist us in a time of need. They are in our lives temporarily to help us through a difficult period or for a specific purpose. Those relationships come to an end once the need is fulfilled.

Then there are the people who enter our lives for a season. They teach us something important about ourselves—a lesson we need to learn. And when that lesson is learned, it’s time for us to move on.

But, most important, there are people who come into our lives for a lifetime—to teach us lifelong lessons. They are always there to support and love us, and together, we build a strong foundation for a lasting relationship. These may be family, friends, or even a lifelong soul mate.

Seeing the beauty in everyone and in all our relationships—both good and bad—is important. There is beauty in everyone, and it’s a wonderful gift to be able to recognize the amazing learning opportunities available to us in all our relationships.

Today, I ask you to see the beauty in everyone who has come into your life—for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
