The Regime (Sky Atlantic from 08.04.24) - comedy dictators on film & TV

An 'amuse-bouche', if you will, of comedic authoritarian leaders on film and TV before the show begins tomorrow.

The Interview (2014)

The Great Dictator (1940)

Carry on Cleo (1964)

Heil Honey, I'm Home (1990)

The Dictator (2012)

The Hunger Games franchise - President Snow

The Beautician & The Beast (1997)

'Written by Todd Graff, based on a pitch by Drescher herself and directed by Ken Kwapis, this bizarre romantic comedy stars Timothy Dalton and Drescher as an evil dictator and the foreign beautician that tames his heart and leads his country toward democracy in the process. The movie has a somewhat confusing notion of how dictatorships work, but that doesn't mean it doesn't pack some important messages. More precisely, the film has a thing or two to say concerning strikes. Though the labor movement is not the most essential part of its plot, The Beautician and the Beast goes out of its way to position itself on the side of workers and deliver a very important message: labor rights are good for everyone.'

Team America: World Police (2004)

Napoleon (2023)

Duck Soup (1933)

Bananas (1971)

Sleeper (1973)

Inglorious Basterds (2009)

Herr Meets Hare (1945)

You Natzy Spy! (1940)

Moon Over Parador (1988)

Tyrant (2014-2016)

By the Wikipedia description if nothing else: 'Bassam "Barry" Al-Fayeed  the second son of Khaled Al-Fayeed, the long-term dictator of Abuddin, and Amira Al-Fayeed. He has been in self-imposed exile in Pasadena, working as a pediatrician before drawn home for his father's funeral'
