REASONS WHY SOME PEOPLE DO NOT GET PROMOTED
This article highlights some of the reasons that promotion is delayed for some people even when they feel they deserve it .

1. YOUR KAMA PAPER (TWAUKWETE ISUKULU).
Sometimes you can be a hard worker but if your certificates do not match the promotion , The company will not risk hiring you . You stand a chance of getting the promotion by atleast even enrolling into the right course for the job . Show them that you are making an effort by enrolling and failing an exam or two . You can always blame your commitment to your job . You have a hospitality certificate but you are hoping they will elevate you from Bank Teller to Branch Manager , No way man even if you are competent , they wont promote you because if things go wrong in the Bank , They will look at the person that promoted you to be a fool to make someone with a catering certificate bank manager . so upgrade sweetie .Â
2. BEING INCOMPETENT
There are some Accountants who cannot recognize a balance sheet if it walked in their kitchen and slapped them . They are some HR officers who donât even know what the abbreviation in HR stands for . There are some lawyers who cannot spell the word LAW . If you are incompetent but somehow managed to get the job because of connections or whatever . It wont be long before everyone , who is anyone realizes that you donât know what you are doing . They will tolerate you but they will not promote you . Key is to start learning the job and understanding it
3. WORKING ENOUGH NOT TO GET FIRED
Some people work enough just to not get fired . They hand in the reports on time , come early and leave early . They do what they are told . These mechanical human beings surprisingly want to be promoted . They convince themselves that they do the work and thus should be promoted . No my friend , if you want to get more than you are getting . Do more than you are being paid for . Donât say il do it if you pay me , it doesnât work like that , First you do then you will get a promotion , cause you have proved that you are the right fit and if they donât promote you , you will be such a hard worker that another company will pick up on your energy and hire you . Energy is never wasted just converted .

4. BEING UNFOCUSED AT WORK
Some people are focused on everything but work . You find a person walks in with a basket of scones for sale . At lunch their car trunk is full of clothes and products to sell to colleagues . Every conversation they have with another employee ends up in trying to sell their colleague something . This is what you call an unfocused person . even if they deliver their work on time , they will not be promoted because their heart is somewhere else . This goes for people who are also ever at someone else desk just chit chatting all the time . Stay on your desk , Nose down and work , If you really want a promotion you have to stop selling stuff at work , it doesnât paint a good picture .
5. UNINTERESTED IN WHATâS GOING ON AT WORK
There was a time when I used to work at the mines . One of the furnaces exploded that was critical to production . People where running around making plans to repair it , everyone was just losing their marbles and me ⦠I was just calm , It had to take another accountant from another department to tell me that my plant was down and I needed to run up and down to capture all capitalization expenses for the repairs and know what to charge to operations and assets . See how useless I was LOL . The truth is I did not give a damn if all 3 furnaces exploded . To me I reported to work and that was that . See why I was not allowed to go back when my life depended on it ? Imagine , your child is critically sick and your boyfriend doesnât seem to have a care in the world , he is even doing bola bet , he hasnât asked you what your child is sick of or what they doctor said . He didnât even want accompany you to the hospital . Tell me , can you promote that person to be your husband ?
6. BEING KNOWN FOR OTHER THINGS
At your work place , you need to be known for things related to your position . If you are an accountant you should be known for being a stingy person who doesnât sign documents to release cash easily . People need to say that he or she thinks its their company . Other people should call you to meetings to advise whether itâs a good idea to buy this or that . Now if you are known for sleeping with everyone in top management or known to be drunkard . How does that help with the promotion . You should not be known for being the hustler at work , you should be known for things related to your position .
7. BEING AN UNRELIABLE PERSON
Some people are so unreliable . Some people if asked to do something , think of all he excuses not to do it . Its only after a battle of wits that they will do what they are asked to do . Then again you still have to check on them every now and then to just ensure that they are doing the work . Then you have to recheck their work because you know they like short cuts . These people do not give the boss confidence to promote them because they need a lot of pushing for them to work . So if you are one of those people that thinks of all the excuses not to do something stop it and just do what is required . If the boss cannot go on leave and leave you in charge for a day , how can you be promoted lol
8. NOT EXPRESSING OPENLY , INTEREST IN BEING PROMOTED
Again as strange as it may sound , Some people do not express their interest in being promoted . They see a job opening at work and donât apply . Then when someone is promoted they start to mumble to themselves . You have to say that you want to be promoted even if your friend wants it too . If you donât speak up , you make it easier for the employer to pick someone else because they will think you are happy in your position .
9. THINKING YOUR BOSS IS FOOLISH
One mistake people make is they think their boss is foolish . Some bosses are not outspoken so some people take their timidity to be stupidity . Especially women , You take mothers day on Friday and Monday . Or you take mothers day next to a holiday so that you make a bomb of holidays . You may think you are clever but you will pass a promotion .  Its obvious that you are taking advantage of the system . People who lie that they have a funeral or that they are sick . People who are just playing computer games at work or just on social media . Your boss knows exactly what you are doing . They are just not outspoken and trust me these people that donât speak are more dangerous than those that shout because people that donât confront you are passive aggressive and keep that anger forever . They smile at you but they hate you . The chance they get to punish you , they will stub you in the back by promoting someone else and saying it was out of their hands
10. BOSS NOT TAKING YOU SERIOUSLY
Last but not least , your boss might be used to seeing you as a poor person . I mean they took you in when you knew nothing , they taught you all that you know . The boss feels like you should actually give him part of your salary because they taught you so much . So when you say you want a promotion they get confused . They still see you as a ka baby that they taught so they hire someone else to fill in a position higher than you . Such bosses you leave them and find another better paying employer .
