One of my posts got +50,000 views

I don't know about you, but I am starting to like this lively community of like-minded people whose content I enjoy reading here on Linkedin.

With the pass of the time, my admiration of LinkedIn's AI-based algorithms is growing because their logical machines display on my feed exactly the kind of content I like to read and the buzz from the community keeps me informed on the most relevant things happening around the world.

I watched by chance a video on YouTube that explained why we can spend a lot of time on a social network due to the 'dopamine kicks' we receive every time we get more views and likes on the content we share with others.

I have reasons to suspect this is somewhat true. A few months ago, I have shared this post and got an amazing surprise, it went 'over the moon' with +57,000 views and +750 likes.

Can you imagine how I have felt? I also was accused of being a Russian troll.

But with hindsight, would this make any change in my life? Absolutely none.

I sometimes wonder, is LinkedIn sort of manipulating each and one of us, as content producers, to create the most amazingly perfect and self-sustained social network that keeps attracting more and more new members?

I vividly remember a few years ago, when I become more active on LinkedIn and got the notification "congratulations your post was viewed by +50 members!" Now I realise why it felt great, I also realise it kept me posting more and more.

I have written an article here with my main lessons gathered from those days, not so long ago:

Last year, when the summer was over, I wrote a summary of my fieldnotes and I learned that it's not worth the effort to write a thoughtful article here on LinkedIn, we never get the same 'kick' as if we write a good post. This is kind of frustrating and let me share here, as an example, two articles with a considerable effort in writing. You cannot imagine how frustratingly long it took them to reach +200 views each.

Most recently, with this other one - Virtual is going to be the new normal the same happened. I got a promising number of 'likes' though but the page views remained excruciatingly low for months.

Pageviews are all that matter

My most recent posts, in contrast, have each 2-3 times more views than any of my articles, so I have figured out to do a recap here, for your benefit as a reader. I hope you like them.

"Vender o peixe". This is a Portuguese expression that can mean you are trying to sell something to someone. But for the 95% of posts on #Linkedin that's what the majority of us do, right?

Today I am not going to try to sell you my own fish (such as my latest book you should all be aware of by now), instead, I will try to sell you something else.

Portuguese sardines, the genuine and original ones.

Like "Pastel de Belém", Sardine is probably one of the great symbols of Portuguese cuisine (not to say culture) and says the tradition that they should be cooked and eaten on the street, preferably with good conversation.

The Mongol Empire (1206-1294) was the largest contiguous land empire that ever existed so far.

Just another example where sheer #leadership of one charismatic person #GenghisKhan united several nomadic tribes under a #sharedvision to expand, conquer and rule the world.

Feared by their ferocity (an estimated 50 million deaths under their rule, when the total world population was 392 million) some of their ruthless practices remained until very recently. This photo made in 1913 in Mongolia depicts this woman who had been condemned to slow and painful starvation.

#violence as a 'power technology' is, therefore, something that other subsequent civilizations have kept using albeit in many other forms up until WWII and beyond.

And how about the #corporate world?

How much sacrifice do you inflict as a leader to grow 'your empire'? And as an employee, how much sacrifice you will have to endure to keep your job?

It's so curious that Russia has picked the name of the first coronavirus #covid19 vaccine in the world to be called #Sputnik5 (sputnik in Russian means Satellite Boat) the name of the first satellite that took animals to space and safely brought them back to Earth,

Back in the 60s, the shock waves produced by such an unexpected breakthrough by the former #SovietUnion were so strong that the US decided to create the #ARPANET that later evolved and become the #Internet a game-changing technology that makes us more resilient to the catastrophic economical consequences of this #pandemic.

Is this the causal nexus that #vladimirputin wants to establish?

The truth is that for every action there will be a counter-action. The competitiveness for country supremacy exactly replicates the evolutionary forces that shape all life on this planet.

Look at the press today and from Aljazeera to NYTimes, a choir of voices downplays this great achievement that we should be celebrating. Aren't we all supposed to be in the same team?

humankind vs coronavirus

How about you, would you be taking the #Russianvaccine if it was available in a pharmacy near you or it's just propaganda?

In Zen, ensō is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.

In the book, I’m reading - Provoke The Art of transformative #facilitation Keith Jones and Tessa Sharp adopt this concept to explain the subtlety of group facilitation.

The imperfect nature of the circle ⭕️ means that the understanding of reality is by default subjective. How one person sees things is not what others are seeing.

When hired by their clients to design meeting events, training workshops or just in-depth conversations, Facilitators embark on a journey of transformative learning that is never complete.

Perfection is the desired state every group or organization aspires to achieve. But only by assimilating every individuals’ imperfections in a uniquely personal transformative learning process, human groups can improve and become teams, organizations can prosper by becoming transformative cultures and humankind can flourish by simply following the higher intelligence that transcends all there is, symbolized by the ensō.

"No country will be able to solve this problem on its own until we have the vaccine, which would be a vital tool and we hope to have it as soon as possible, but there is no guarantee that we will have it, and even if we have it, it will not end to the pandemic alone”. Warned Dr Tedros the man at the helm of the WHO this Friday at a press conference.

For this reason, he has urged all countries to "learn to control and manage this virus using current tools", and to "make the adjustments in daily life that are necessary to stay safe."

This also includes, of course, #healthdata and better #healthanalytics enabled by leaner #healthinformation systems.

We are so honoured and pleased to have as guest keynotes David Novillo Ortiz, MLIS, MSc, PhD from WHO Europe and Luís Goes Pinheiro President of SPMS, EPE - Serviços Partilhados do Ministério da Saúde in our next hybrid global summit, 28 to 30 October.

The rebel child. According to Eric Berne, this is an 'ego state' that we all occasionally occupy when interacting with others.

  • "Screw you" or "I hate coronavirus" are typical examples.

This state interplays with 'parent' and 'adult' the other states our Ego can manifest when relating with others.

  • "Enough, do what I tell you" is another state example. You can guess which one.

#Transformative #leaders gain consciousness of these non-effective #communication patterns in a group and may use powerful models such as #transactionalanalysis to design suitable interventions ranging from #roleplaying to #NLP.

Yet, without proper evidence of how such group interactions can impact on #teamperformance, it's almost like you are driving blind.

In my latest book #BeyondVirtualMeetings, I talk about several digital tools that can help leaders, #managers#agilecoaches, and #facilitators to become more effective in their invaluable mission of transforming #groups into highly productive #teams.
