Miraculous Recovery of Premi: Baby Majed Triumphs over Extreme Prematurity and Health Challenges

Baby Majed, son of Iman, was born on 5 April 2024, marking a triumphant journey of resilience and perseverance. Born prematurely at just #28 weeks #gestation, weighing only 1000gms, Baby Majed faced an uphill battle from the moment of birth in Zulekha Hospital Sharjah. The #pregnancy itself was fraught with #challenges, as Iman struggled with severe #hypertension and preeclampsia, necessitating #intensive care for 11 days prior to an #emergency cesarean section.

Dr. Walid Alhussin, Consultant Neonatology and Head of NICU at Zulekha Hospital Sharjah, described the critical condition upon birth, stating, "Baby Majed required immediate ventilator support due to #premature #lungs and the critical nature of extreme prematurity. The parents were prepared at #antenatal stage, for the risks associated with #preterm birth, including the low chances of survival."

The baby was born and in the #first week of life, Baby Majed remained on ventilator support, gradually progressing to #independent #breathing. Challenges such as feed intolerance required total parenteral nutrition initially, followed by management of #anemia and Oxygen support for BPD spells (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia), common in premature infants.

Against all odds, Baby Majed persevered through a 75-day stay in the NICU at Zulekha Hospital. After getting off all medical support, achieving oral feeds, and #overcoming various #health hurdles, Baby Majed was discharged #weighing 2.30 kgs, with a corrected gestational age of 39 weeks. Both cranial sonography and ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) check-ups returned normal results.

Dr. Walid Alhussin expressed his gratitude, saying, "The dedication of our NICU team, coupled with the unwavering faith of Baby Majed's parents and their belief in the power of perseverance, contributed immensely to this #remarkable outcome."

The parents have been extremely grateful and appreciated the #efforts and emotional and #medical #support given to them as a family. Baby Majed's story is a testament to the resilience of the #human spirit and the #advancements in neonatal care at Zulekha Hospital. The entire #medical team celebrates Baby Majed's discharge and wishes him a future filled with #health and #happiness.
