Mindset - Fixed vs Growth

Mindset - Fixed vs Growth

'The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do' – Steve Jobs

A growth mindset is a belief that abilities can be developed and the desire to embrace learning, challenges, and setbacks are source of growth—creates the drive and resilience that influence success in virtually every area of life

There are two main mindsets that we navigate our life with – Fixed mindset and growth mindset. People say that a growth mindset is an essential key element for success as successful people and emerging entrepreneurs possess a growth mindset. I would like to take this mindset – One Step Ahead! I believe that having a growth mindset will enable us to live a more fulfilling life, which is much more than just a career.

I used to be a fixed mindset person but after reading this book my mindset has shifted towards a growth mindset now. Practicing this in everyday life is such a pleasure. I read Mindset by Carol S. Dweck and will summarise the book to the best I can with the hope that this article may change some other lives as well. I have developed a growth mindset and it has changed my life I have started looking at things in a different way and it's rewarding too so I thought it's best to share this knowledge with everyone. Interesting, isn’t it?

1 – Skills can be cultivated through efforts – In a growth mindset, you don’t always need confidence. Even though you think that you are not good at something, you can still plunge into it. People are born with a love of learning but with a fixed mindset, you can undo it. You may be wanting everything to be as perfect as a star but remember, do you never want to grow? Growth is a process, keep going. Think about your hero. Now go and find out the truth. Find out the tremendous effort that went into their accomplishment – and admire them even more.

2 – People with a growth mindset thrive on challenges – People with a growth mindset don’t think that they are failing, they think that they are learning. A fixed mindset person creates an urgency to prove himself/herself over and over. Working hard on something and then seeing that project as a failure is something that no one wants. But with a growth mindset, you can use that experience as a part of learning and growing. Give people a growth mindset gift, create an environment of growth mindset so even when the negative label comes along, they’ll remain in charge of their learning. Next time when you have a question – Do I belong here? Say YES!

3 – Sports, the mindset of a champion – Practice is an essential key for any sport. You got to train your body, mind, emotions, and heart to play well. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Hey! But wait we are talking about developing a growth mindset and in a growth mindset, there is no loss. There is learning, trying, and sometimes doing it all over again. Character is an important concept in the sports world and it comes out from a growth mindset. Athletes with a growth mindset find success in learning and improving, not just winning. The more you can do this, the more rewarding sports will be for you and for those who play them with you.

4 – Business: Mindset and Leadership – Organisations that grow, works collaboratively. They work as a team. Working as a team doesn’t mean that there are no disagreements or failures. Disagreements, if used wisely can be a great atomic power to solve big business issues. With a growth mindset, managers and leaders create more future leaders. They lift people up. They look at their mistake and try to find ways to solve them in a way that is helpful for an employee (mental health), his/her growth, and society as a whole. Leaders with a growth mindset don’t play small. They empower and celebrate others' success. They share power and make others believe that they can do it and they are seen, heard, valued, and supported.

Managers are not born, they are made! They learn skills and techniques, they learn, unlearn, relearn, fall down, pick up themselves and do it again. A big cheers to unlearning!!

So if you are a growth mindset person, you will be open to upcoming challenges and your work will empower and inspire a lot of other people. Leading with enthusiasm, hope, possibilities will be your everyday thing, and a positive mindset will enable you to have a fulfilled and meaningful life. With this you will lift people up and will empower the planet!
