Meet Emily Schwartz

Title: Senior Director of Innovation, Talent and Specials

Division: CBS

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE

I oversee three key areas for CBS Marketing on the creative team: Innovation, Talent, and Specials. My responsibility involves developing and executing innovative, earned media stunts across CBS Originals and Specials, as well as enhancing the talent experience at CBS within the marketing department.

DESCRIBE MORE ABOUT WHAT YOUR ROLE ENTAILS

I’m really excited about pushing the boundaries of our marketing campaigns. The idea is to get creative with how we utilize our content, talent and marketing efforts across various platforms and reimagine how we engage with our ‘opportunity audience’ and reward the fandoms. From a talent perspective, we’re focused on enhancing their experience during tentpole marketing efforts and ensuring they feel valued and recognized as true partners in our marketing initiatives for their shows. As for specials like the Grammys, Tonys and now the Golden Globes, my focus is on cultivating engagement, collaborating with partners like Meta and TikTok, and fostering content consumption to help drive revenue.

WHY IS THIS NEW FUNCTION IMPORTANT?

Overall, I’m excited to help drive forward-thinking initiatives and foster a culture of taking calculated, creative risks within CBS. We need to continue connecting with our core audience but also have to reach where our ‘opportunity audiences’ are. Innovation is a big part of that.

YOU MOVED FROM WORKING IN COMMUNICATIONS TO THE MARKETING TEAM. CAN YOU SHARE MORE ABOUT THAT?

I firmly believe in the importance of continually challenging oneself and embracing new roles. When I came over to Marketing four years ago, I had yet to plan an event or an experience. Now, I’ve had the opportunity to help produce drone shows, a live red-carpet fashion show, a fan campaign that was recognized for a Clio award, and a multi-state performance and light projection show in Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles. It’s exciting to do these big experiential campaigns.

WAS THIS THE PATH YOU ENVISIONED?

I’m a huge fan of TV and was a production major at Boston University. I thought I was going to be a television producer. I got into a program where you intern at entertainment companies during the day and take classes at night while living in Los Angeles for a semester. From that program, I got an internship with the CW in the communications and talent relations department, and I fell in love with it. That internship led me to CBS, and I’ve been here ever since – I joined CBS 10 years ago.

WHAT’S HELPED YOU BE SUCCESSFUL?

I always push myself to do more. I always look for other things. It’s been one of the keys to my success. The other key is collaborating with the amazing people who work here. I have had amazing mentors and co-workers who have taught me so much. Working with such talented people has taught me the power of collaboration and the importance of always staying curious.

JUST watched a collection of my recordings of "CBS Sunday Morning" show to reduce space THEY ARE SO FAR LEFT BIASED - I AM NEVER going to record them again, for their massive bias.
