Major breakthrough: Lifesaving solution dramatically reduces severe bleeding after childbirth
A new trial promises a significant breakthrough in preventing deaths from postpartum bleeding, which is the leading cause of maternal mortality globally. Following the intervention, severe bleeding after childbirth was reduced by more than 60%.
Preterm birth is now the leading cause of child deaths, accounting for more than 1 in 5 of all deaths of children occurring before their fifth birthday. Preterm survivors can face lifelong health consequences, with an increased likelihood of disability and developmental delays. Action is needed urgently to improve the prevention of preterm birth, alongside better care for affected babies and their families.
No matter when or where theyâre born, babies Born Too Soon deserve every chance to survive and thrive. They need the right care before, during and after childbirth.
