Vladimir Putin and Sergey Lavrov are both responsible for turning Russia into the mafia state that it is today. They have helped create and run a criminal government that lies, gaslights, cheats, and betrays Russians every day. They and their criminal accomplices hold onto power by oppressing the Russian people while they run a global crime syndicate fueled by greed and corruption and which murders journalists, censors and controls the news, imprisons political opponents and dissenters, prevents freedom of religion and expression, legalizes domestic abuse against women and hate crimes against the LGBT community, kills the entrepreneurial spirit of the gifted, and maintains power through rigging elections. This is in addition to sending Russian men to die in an unlawful war they started on their neighbor Ukraine’s soil after stealing its land, all while outlawing Russian mothers from publicly mourning their sons who die in combat; a tactic the Kremlin initiated to maintain a failed optic of denying responsibility for its war atrocities and destruction in Ukraine.
The system of criminal abuse Putin and Lavrov work aggressively to maintain has set Russia back many years and left it with a GDP that is smaller than that of the state of Texas. It’s no wonder Putin’s approval rating is at an all time low and opposition to his corrupt regime is at an all time high.
If this is how Putin and Lavrov operate in their roles as leaders of the Russian Federation, responsible for caring for and working in the interests of the Russian people but instead created for them a living nightmare of an authoritarianism regime where only few prosper, and only through corruption, it is no surprise that they’re just as criminal on the international stage. They cheat, lie, deceive, break rules, betray, and work to destroy democracies around the world as they try to expand Putin’s global mafia empire. There was ample reason for 17 U.S. intelligence agencies to conclude that Russia attacked the 2016 U.S. election to prop-up Russian mafia-linked Donald Trump into power. But these American national security officials also made clear that Putin is America’s greatest threat, and that of our democratic allies.
This week, as the impeachment proceedings heighten and House Democrats move forward to hold Donald Trump accountable for his obscene abuse of power and inviting 2020 foreign election interference by strong-arming Ukraine in a manner that left the U.S. ally more vulnerable to Putin’s hostile aggressions, the corrupt Secretary of State Pompeo who participated in this Ukraine scandal and Donald Trump are in talks to have Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov visit Washington, D.C. in the coming days.
The criminal Lavrov should not be permitted to step foot on U.S. soil. During his last visit, which was in May 2017, he had the audacity to mock the abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey; who Trump terminated because Comey was investigating Russia’s hybrid warfare attack on the U.S. election. Lavrov then celebrated the firing in a secretive meeting in the Oval Office during which Trump disclosed national secrets that Russians used and got Israelis killed. Nothing good can come out of Lavrov’s presence in the U.S. and his visit should not be normalized under these circumstances. He’s sure to strong arm US officials beholden to Putin into deals that are against the interests of U.S. national security. He and Putin have an interest in the impeachment hearing as much as Trump and the cowardly Republicans who pander to Moscow. For Putin and Lavrov, this is about holding onto power over the U.S. government or at least cashing in on last minute deals favorable to Moscow in the event they lose control. Both scenarios are dangerous.
Just as importantly, it’s vital for Americans to understand that the false narrative that Ukraine conspired to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election originated with Lavrov. On December 1, 2016, it was Lavrov’s Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson who launched the “blame Ukraine†disinformation missile. His team is responsible for planting this hostile seed of propaganda warfare against an important U.S. ally and those Americans Trump feared most, who he to this day views as his enemy. The seed Lavrov’s team planted was watered and nurtured by no other than Putin’s most loyal American political influence peddler Paul Manafort who sits in prison for his crimes associated with working for Putin to prop-up Moscow’s preferred elected officials in Ukraine. In 2017, Manafort and Giuliani helped that seed rapidly grow into a weed that infested the White House, Republican Party, and mainstream media. Now Manafort is coordinating, from prison, with Trump and his personal lawyer and criminal accomplice Rudy Giuliani to fuel the “blame Ukraine†conspiracy internationally to coverup their crimes; to try to secure Manafort a pardon; to hurt Trump’s top 2020 opponent former Vice President Biden who was vital in helping Ukraine during the 2013-2014 Revolution of Dignity when Ukrainians risked their lives in protest against Putin’s grip over their own government that Manafort created; and to cause complete chaos and havoc for Ukraine’s new President who was elected with more than 70% of the vote and was then threatened and smeared by a mobster occupying the Oval Office who failed to secure even 50% of the popular vote despite Putin’s tremendous effort to get him elected through political hybrid warfare and cheating.
Lavrov’s visit to the U.S. is a national security threat, an insult to Russians who live in the mafia state he fosters, and an insult to Ukraine and other U.S. allies. It’s astounding that Trump makes a meeting with Ukraine’s new president contingent on committing crimes against the U.S. through the Trump administration’s campaign of coercion that used Congressionally mandated military aid as bait, but he welcomes Russia’s official with open arms even though he’s a hostile aggressor against America.
Lavrov should not be welcomed and if those cowardly American government officials who have shown more of an allegiance to Putin than to the U.S. Constitution meet with him on American soil, then at the very least American journalists and patriotic activists should not allow his visit to be normalized. He needs to be called out for creating the “blame Ukraine†conspiracy that has caused immense damage over the past few years as it gaslit the media and Americans about the real enemy of the US and prevented many from understanding that the nation that bares responsibility for attacking our democracy then and today is the Russian Federation.

Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych (Ukrainian: Ð’Ñ–Ìктор ФеÌдорович ЯнукоÌвич, listen (help·info); born 9 July 1950) is a Ukrainian politician who was elected as the fourth President of Ukraine on 7 February 2010.[5] He served as President from February 2010 until his removal from power in February 2014 as a result of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. He is currently in exile in Russia and wanted by Ukraine for high treason.
Yanukovych served as the governor of Donetsk Oblast, a province in eastern Ukraine, from 1997 to 2002. He was Prime Minister of Ukraine from 21 November 2002 to 31 December 2004, under President Leonid Kuchma. Yanukovych first ran for president in 2004: he advanced to the runoff election and was initially declared the winner against former Prime Minister Viktor Yushchenko. However, the election was fraught with allegations of electoral fraud and voter intimidation. This caused widespread citizen protests and Kyiv's Independence Square was occupied in what became known as the Orange Revolution. The Ukrainian Supreme Court nullified the runoff election and ordered a second runoff. Yanukovych lost this second election to Yushchenko. He served as Prime Minister for a second time from 4 August 2006 to 18 December 2007, under President Yushchenko.
Yanukovych was elected President in 2010, defeating Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The election was judged free and fair by international observers.[6][7] November 2013 saw the beginning of a series of events that led to his ousting as President.[8][9][10] Yanukovych rejected a pending EU association agreement, choosing instead to pursue a Russian loan bailout and closer ties with Russia. This led to protests and the occupation of Kyiv's Independence Square, a series of events dubbed the "Euromaidan" by young pro-European Union Ukrainians. In January 2014, this developed into deadly clashes in Independence Square and in other areas across Ukraine, as Ukrainian citizens confronted the Berkut and other special police units.[11] In February 2014, Ukraine appeared to be on the brink of civil war, as violent clashes between protesters and special police forces led to many deaths and injuries.[12][13][14] On 21 February 2014, Yanukovych claimed that, after lengthy discussions, he had reached an agreement with the opposition.[15] Later that day, however, he left the capital for Kharkiv, saying his car was shot at as he left Kyiv, and travelling next to Crimea, and eventually to exile in southern Russia.[16]
On 22 February, the Ukrainian parliament voted to remove him from his post, on the grounds that he was unable to fulfill his duties.[17] Parliament set 25 May as the date for the special election to select his replacement,[17][18][19][20] and, two days later, issued a warrant for his arrest, accusing him of "mass killing of civilians."[21] After his departure, Yanukovych conducted several press conferences. In one of these, he declared himself to remain "the legitimate head of the Ukrainian state elected in a free vote by Ukrainian citizens".[22] On 18 June 2015, Yanukovych was officially deprived of the title of President of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.[23] On 24 January 2019, he was sentenced in absentia to thirteen years' imprisonment for high treason by a Ukrainian court.[24]
