India wants the global community to name and shame countries that support terrorism.
Speaking at the “Counter Terrorism Conference 2016” in northern Indian city of Jaipur on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that the move could help the world combat terror. In a veiled reference to neighbouring Pakistan, the Indian foreign secretary also said that some countries are trying to buy peace at home by supporting terror outfits elsewhere in the world. According to him, it is “delusional” and these countries should understand that terrorism would not be supported anywhere.
Jaishankar told the audience that greater international co-operation is needed to fight terrorism and so-called “victims of terror” should co-operate on fighting terror on international stage. He once again urged the global community to show solidarity by sending a united message, condemning terror attacks.
Meanwhile, the foreign secretary made it clear that India will try its best to normalise ties with Pakistan even after the recent terror attacks on a base of Indian Air Force (IAF) in Pathankot in which some Pakistani terrorists were involved. “Since the Pathankot attacks happened on January 2, we have been in touch with Pakistan. We have been in touch at my level and the National Security Adviser level because only by remaining in touch, we can expect them to progress on the basis of information which we have provided to them,” stressed the senior Indian official.
Jaishankar further said that the Narendra Modi government in New Delhi recently held talks with Myanmar on fighting terrorism and received a positive response from Naypyidaw. “We had some problems with Myanmar and we have also some discussions with them. Some developments took place in the last few months and possibility of terror attacks occurring in the eastern part of India from beyond the border would come down,” he stressed.
