Holiday Planning Warning

The following statement/rant may make you think that I am an idiot, but I would like to take the opportunity to make all my connections aware of a potential issue when your booking a well deserved holiday for the family.

I have recently booked our package holiday through Expedia with BA flights, and recently went onto the website to input the passport information, when I realised that somehow our return connection was not through the same airport. We land at Gatwick and take off from Heathrow. I realise they are not a million miles apart (36 to be precise), but I struggle to understand how this can be considered a connecting flight.

Expedia want £150 each to change the booking, and £750 seems like a hell of a lot on an already expensive holiday. I have spoken to British Airways and they say I would need to go through the Travel Agent to make a change to the booking. So I am in catch 22.

All in all I'm very dissatisfied about the whole thing, the prospect of arriving at Gatwick, being abandoned by Expedia and left to find our own way with three young children, collecting baggage etc. going through two sets of passport control, herding everyone onto the National Express coach to make the journey.

The lesson that I have learnt is, firstly I wont be booking a package holiday online I think it is better to rely on talking to someone in person, and secondly if you are making a booking that involves connecting flights it is apparently your own responsibility to make sure they go through the same airport

I realise this is perhaps not something for Linkdin, but I think given my recent experience it is only fair that I share it with you.

Thats my rant over, have a good day

Yeah expedia don't make out they are all individual components

This is the downside of booking online seperately hotels and flights. Also you cannot claim compensation for illness late flights etc as you didn't go through a travel agent. You should have spoke to me first as I've been through this and it's still very sore !!!
