Ginger Whisky Smash
A Ginger Whisky Smash

Ginger Whisky Smash

Welcome back, or if it’s your first time here, take a seat, and I’ll fix you a drink.

Today, we are going to look at a Ginger Whisky Smash

Smash cocktails date back to at least the 1860-1880’s. These drinks celebrate versatility and adaptability in mixology. Ice is fundamental, and seasonal fruits not only provide flavor but can also serve as simple garnishes. A spirit base is essential, allowing for endless experimentation. Sweetness can be added through sugar or syrups, and dilution can be adjusted with water or a splash of seltzer. At its core, the smash is a tribute to creativity, perfect for hot days and utilizing on-hand ingredients over ice for pure sipping enjoyment.

Let's start with some ingredients:

  • 1oz Fiery Ginger Syrup <we made that back here> Or some Ginger Ale (don’t add any Soda water if you use the syrup.
  • 2oz Whisky: I’ve used Bourbon, but I recommend experimenting
  • 1oz Amaretto
  • 1 Lime
  • 4-6 oz Soda Water

What Glass should I use,…

  • Rocks

What hardware do I need?

  • Bar spoon
  • Juicer
  • Knife

Directions - Let's do this; let's make a drink!

Start with your Lime. We want 1/2 oz to 1oz lime juice.

We also want a couple of wedges or a wheel or two to decorate.

Take your glass and add crushed ice, or pebble ice.

Add the Whisky, and the Amaretto, and the Lime juice

Add the Ginger syrup and stir with the bar spoon.

Pour some soda water atop - “to taste”. Meaning - figure put how you want this drink to taste, to your own preference.

If you are using Ginger ale - mix the Whisky, Amaretto and Lime with the spoon, then pour the Ginger ale in, near to the top. Probably around 4oz, but again “to taste”.

Enjoy

Tips

Instead or as well as the lime, you could add some slices of fresh ginger  - To really lean into this being a Smash Cocktail
