Generative AI - @ Work - Boon or Bane

Generative AI - @ Work - Boon or Bane

Unlocking the Genie: Last wednesday was a Fascinating Dive into Generative AI in the Workplace. The featured guest was Bharath Hemachandran along with audience participation from Himanshu Kumar Pankaj Soni Sajithkumar ⚡️ Swaminathan , Vipul M. Mali 🎯 , Hemachandran SESHADRI , RAJASEKARAN THANGAVEL , KARTHIKEYAN THIYAGARAJAN , Pranati R. . An engaging active discussion . Thanks everyone especially Bharath

🧞 ♂️ Here are the key points which got discussed

🔷 Generative AI, differs from older AI systems as it predicts new outcomes based on training, rather than recognizing patterns.

🔷Generative AI isn't sentient and lacks understanding or appreciation of input; it processes text, audio, or images into numbers, generating predictions based on very clever algorithms.

🔷Drawbacks of generative AI include bias in results due to training data, privacy concerns, authenticity of data, and over-dependence on AI-generated content.

🔷Anticipating bias requires critical thinking and validating AI-generated data; users should be aware of the limitations and potential pitfalls.

🔷Organizations react differently to generative AI: some embrace it fully, some proceed cautiously, while others await clearer legal and regulatory frameworks.Banks , healthcare , insurance will see a slow adoption of AI while creative firms are going all out to embrace AI.

🔷Generative AI democratizes AI tools, making them accessible to a wider audience; its use varies across fields, potentially enhancing productivity in creative domains.

🔷Some specialized AI/ML tools remain relevant, as generative AI's application depends on use cases; traditional AI can offer more confidence in certain areas.

🔷Generative AI is like a Lego game, offering building blocks for creativity, and how it's applied determines its usefulness.

One question that keeps getting asked in all AI vs Jobs kind of discussions is what skills will help us take advantage of the AI influx. This was very well clarified by Bharath -

  1. Critical thinking. We need to be able to question the information that Generative Ai gives us. And we need to improve our ability to get the answer we want.
  2. Analytical Skills : Crunching large volume of data, being able to analyse the data and get to the crux is going to be important.
  3. Adapt : We need to be able to adapt to the fast pace of change which we are oing to be faced with.

Mainly critical thinking is going to be key in deciding on who survives the new way in which work is going to transform in the coming months.
