Robert’s journey began when he and his parents immigrated from Eastern Europe to Canada by boat.
Their goal? To escape former Yugoslavia Communism.

With one suitcase for the whole family, they moved to Toronto, where they lived in a friend’s basement for two years.
His parents barely had any money, and they struggled for quite some time. But that only motivated Herjavec to work towards something, run harder, push harder, and do more in his life. He didn’t want to be poor.
As a kid, Robert waited tables and delivered newspapers. His journey to the top was not easy, and he and his family had to start from scratch when they arrived in Canada.
But with hard work and dedication, he was able to turn his passion for technology into a successful business.Â

In 1990, Herjavec founded a cybersecurity company from his basement, BRAK Systems.
10 YEARS LATER, HE SOLD BRAK SYSTEMS TO AT&T — FOR $30.2 MILLION.
Then, in 2003, he founded The Herjavec Group, which became a leader in global cybersecurity and one of America’s fastest-growing tech companies.

Known as the “Nice Shark†on ABC’s Shark Tank, Robert joined the first season of the show in 2009. Since then, he has invested in companies such as Happy Feet, Tipsy Elves, and many more.
