What are some deductions for business travel expenses, particularly for overseas trips? If the entire trip is spent on business activities, the entire trip may be deducted as a business expense. Even if the trip includes some non-business activities, it may still be considered 100% business-related under certain conditions such as: Not having substantial control over arranging the trip, you are outside the US for a week or less, and 25% or less of the time is spent on non-business activities. Expenses associated with attending a professional seminar or education program or other directly related business expenses may still be deducted.Â
