The Fear of Silence
Inspired from an interview with Sergeant First Class Enrique Irby, US Army

The Fear of Silence

Many of us fear silence and pursue various distractions in order to avoid dealing with our inner struggles, traumas, and insecurities. Or as one of my friends would say, the majority of people run from silence because of the fear of “dealing with our shit".

Believe it or not, these issues are all forms of energy that science is now proving can literally be measured and analyzed in order to better understand human behavioral triggers, motivations, and responses.

The practice of avoidance ensures that we carry these harmful and hindering energies longer than we need to. Many of us will unfortunately end up carrying these issues to the grave because we eventually choose to accept them as a part of our identity.

The harsh reality is that they will NEVER go away on their own. Either you can choose to transform your energies or you can choose to carry them as they are. The one thing that you can't do is put a lid on them and bury them in the proverbial graveyard of the forgotten. Well you could, but that would be a form of avoidance or denial as well. The concept, out of sight out of mind, doesn't seem to work as well when it comes to issues of the emotions or psyche, the same that it does for a craving for ice cream or cheesecake.

Strong vibrational energies such as thoughts, feelings, and memories have a way of showing up at the most random or inopportune times in our lives. If we reference the law of conservation of energy in the field of physics, energy cannot be destroyed, only transformed or transmitted/transferred. Oftentimes the issues that we fail to transform will get transferred or transmitted to the people that we love. They even have the potential to be transferred or passed from generation to generation until someone decides to transform them into a different and more productive form of energy. An energy that will serve to enrich the life of the individual, along with those that they have close relationships with.

My parting advice is this. You can listen to as many life coaches, pastors, and mentors as you choose. They offer great value in helping you develop a deeper and more clear level of self-awareness. Some may even go as far as to provide you with a practical transformative blueprint. However, the ability to comprehend concepts and philosophies don't automatically result in proper action. Our society is drowning in the noise being generated from the abundance of virtual experts and gurus. But in my years of experience, silence is the place where the real transformative work actually happens.
