Dialing Down On 5 Habits to Transform Your Life

Are you feeling stuck in a rut, unable to move forward and make progress, or just going through the motions treading water or jogging in place?  If so, here are 5 easy-to-execute habits that can help transform your life and make you ready to face any challenges that lie ahead.

But, before I share the list of 5 good habits, let’s first examine the benefits.

When you build good habits and routines, they have the potential for transforming lives through making small, seemingly insignificant changes every day.

Once you are consistent, you’ll noticed that these habits build up over time and before you know it, you are enjoying a balanced, refreshing new life.

The habits you build are totally within your grasp.  Here are the 5 most effective habits to cultivate:

1.    Change your wake-up time.  As simple as this may seem, it’s the most effective change that you can make to get your body prepared for the day ahead.

·     Once you train your body to wake up earlier and at the same time every day, you will enjoy more time and energy. You’ll also be in a positive mindset for the day, and you can take advantage of sipping on that “café latte” in peace and quiet.

2.    Have a schedule.  Once you are awake, map out your day. Having a schedule guides you in determining what are your priorities, eliminating distractions, and deciding what tasks are most important to you.

·     A daily routine provides structure and a logical sequence in our lives. It is also very useful for remaining motivated and engaged.

·     Having a schedule keeps your time organized and helps you from becoming overwhelmed with all you must do or bag a problem that may pop up unannounced.

3.    Set deadlines.  Deadlines help you to focus your mind and help you to achieve your goals.  They are amazing for holding you accountable to finish a job within the required timeframe.  Oftentimes we approach deadlines as being too restrictive or invasive, but, if you restructure your thinking, you can hit your goals and mitigate procrastination.

·     Set yourself a challenge every day – you will feel so amazing when you beat it!

·     When you set deadlines, it also helps you to be more accountable for your actions. It is also an important element of self-development and improvement.

4.    Make time to move.  As a routine, you should pencil in when you’ll get your body moving.  Humans were not designed for a sedentary lifestyle, so write down the times when you will be exercising and be as active as possible throughout the day.

·     Set your alarm to remind you when to get up and take a stretch.  Perhaps, a 30 minutes’ walk during your lunchtime, or just some stretching as you wait for the kettle to boil.

·     Staying in shape and being active is crucial for improving your life and will keep you healthy and strong throughout your lifetime.

5.    Remember self-care.  You are the most important asset that you have, and it is important to take care of yourself before anyone else.  Although this can seem counterintuitive, it is extremely important for keeping yourself healthy and strong.

·     Spend some time relaxing at home either watching a ‘good’ movie or just listening to the sound of silence.

·     Don’t allow work to interrupt your entire life.  Regardless of how much you love your job, it’s important to ensure that you have projects that are just for you and that ignite that inner spark and passion in your soul.
