A Deepening Humanitarian Emergency in Northern Mozambique

Welcome to the RI Bulletin. Let’s dive in.

A spike in insurgent attacks in northern Mozambique is driving a growing humanitarian and displacement crisis, even as donors and security forces are withdrawing. Some 1 million people have been displaced by the insurgency.

Aid organizations are facing chronic underfunding, and the government of Mozambique refuses to recognize the situation as a humanitarian crisis. Immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of northern Mozambique’s population – IDPs in particular –  are needed before it’s too late. Refugees International’s Sarah Miller and Mark Wood traveled to the region. Their latest report details what must be done.
