An Active Shooter Killed Four, and Nine Others Were Injured at Apalachee High School in Georgia.  The Shooter is in Custody and the High School is in Lockdown.  A Family Unification Center Has Been Set Up!

This morning,  Apalachee High School  suffered an attack by an active shooter, who was a 14-year old student.  Apalachee High School is about an hour from Atlanta in Winder, Georgia.

The 14-year old student has been taken into custody, accused of killing four, and nine others were rushed to local hospitals after the shooting took place about 10:20 this morning, according to the Sheriff of Barrow County. The student shooter has not been identified by law enforcement.  Officers from multiple agencies and Fire as well as EMS personnel were dispatched to the school.

Within a short time, there were dozens of law enforcement and emergency vehicles surrounding the school.  One air ambulance airlifted a victim from the scene.  Georgia State Patrol troopers as well as deputies from Barrow and Winder counties were responding.

At 4 pm, a woman said that her father, a teacher and coach at the school, was one of the victim who was shot and wounded in the shooting.  Katie Phenix, said David Phenix, a curriculum specialist, was shot in the foot and the hip and rushed into surgery.  He is currently stable.

Governor Brian Kemp has issued the following statement.  “Marty, the girls, and I are heartbroken by today’s tragedy at Apalachee High School.  This is a day that every parent dreads, and Georgians everywhere will hug their children tighter this evening because of this painful event.  We continue to work very closely with local, state, and federal partners to make any and all resources available to help this community on this incredibly difficult day and in the days to come.”

Students evacuated to the football field and according to one grandmother, said that her 10-grade grandson is OK, and has been reunited with his mother.   A mother said that her son’s coach locked the door and barricaded the students inside the classroom as shots rang out!
