5 A's For An Author

Writing/publishing industry is evolving. Authors are presented with a challenge to hone their craft and stay authentic at the same time. I am the curious learner who is picking up these cues along her journey as an author/writer. Seasoned writer or a fresher, these 5 attributes all starting with 'A' cannot be overlooked. Check these:

1. Adaptability

Are you open to change and innovation? The dynamic publishing industry demands an author to be adaptable - one who experiments with different genres, styles, and formats. Adaptability keeps writers ahead of the curve and keeps their work fresh and captivating.

2. Articulate

Clarity and precision are powerful tools. Writing without these elements will not resonate with readers. Vocabulary is important, but you cannot afford to ignore the significance of structuring sentences and paragraphs. Precision is mandatory. After all, readers who connect with your work are the treasure house of your motivation in your author journey.

3. Attention to Details

Great writing is born from perfection. Plot consistency, character development, grammatical rules, each detail has to be taken care of. We need a meticulous approach to make the manuscript polished and professional. This is where the prime focus should be.

4. Authentic

If you are apprehensive thinking, "Will anyone read my work? There's too much crowd", read this. Authenticity will definitely set you apart. Readers are glued to voices that are genuine and authentic. You have a unique perspective and a glimpse of your personal experiences add depth and authenticity to your writing. Authenticity builds trust and your work lingers in the mind of the reader for long.

5. Ambition

How ambitious do you feel? Are you self-driven? Are you determined? A determined author invests efforts into improving his or her craft, transcends boundaries, and accomplishes new milestones. Whether you want to excel in new writing techniques or you are eyeing on expanding your readership, ambition keeps you motivated and focused.

Adaptability, Articulation, Attention to Detail, Authenticity, and Ambition—are not just traits; They are the cornerstones of success in your writing career. Start nurturing these attributes and meander through the complex landscape of the publishing world with confidence.

I am developing these traits as an author and they have held my hand with grace. Success also includes the vital lessons you pick up in the process. Success is a process, not a destination. Do you agree? Share your views!
