4 Toxic mental habits that are hurting you more than you think

Habits make the man, but who chooses these habits? It is the man himself. And sometimes before we even realize the negative impact of something on our life, it becomes our habit. So, what do we do about it? Do we continue to live with that bad habit? Or do we try and get rid of it?

Of course, we try to get rid of it. But like they say, bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into but hard to get out of it.

‘Don’t let the bad habit of poor management bite you. Start using ProofHub.’

And before jumping straight into eliminating those habits we need to figure out which are the ones that are actually hurting you. In this post, we are going to talk about the same so let us take a look -

1. You try to make everyone happy

You can never please everyone - it’s as simple as that. No matter how hard you try to, there will always be some people who are unhappy with your decision.

By trying to do things to please others, you are in a way compromising with your personal beliefs. And this habit could be the reason of frustration for you in the future. For instance, as a business leader there are times when I have to make the decision of laying someone off. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than the feeling of letting someone go from the team that you created. But at the same time, this is something that’s needed for the growth of the team, business and myself then I have to make the tough choice.

2. You are an emotional decision maker

When you let your emotions take over the logical thinking, you make mistakes. And I am sure all of you would agree with this statement.

There is a reason why they say ‘never make a promise when you are happy, never reply when you are angry and never take a decision when you are sad.’ People who let their emotions get the better of them are the worst decision makers in business. It is okay to sympathize with someone, to even empathize with them, but when it comes to deciding what is right for your business you have to be blunt!

3. You easily make perceptions

One of the worst habits that we as humans have is that of making perceptions about other people or other things, without even knowing about that person or thing.

By making a perception about something, we are feeding our brain with something false. Yes, I agree that there is probability of your perception being true, but there is an equal probability of it being false. This is where the whole habit of ‘looking at things with a preconceived notion’ can be toxic for you. I can strongly say the same because I have been at the receiving end of the same. During the early stage of my career, I had this habit of judging people. But as it turned out to be, this habit cost me quite a lot during those days.

4. You are afraid to fail

While there will be many who might not agree on this point, but feeling of fear is nothing more than just a habit.

Like they say, the fool did it because he did not know it was impossible - it is the way we train our mind to look at things that helps us achieve greater heights in life. If you will think of failure as a spot on your reputation, you will never go out of the box to try something innovative. On the other hand, if you will make it a habit to look at failure as an opportunity to learn something new you can be sure to achieve more than you ever expected.

The list can be fairly long, varying from person to person. Though I’ve tried to cover the maximum number of habits, which almost every person can relate to. I’m sure after reading this post you will have this question in mind - how to overcome these habits?

Well, I am going to talk about that in my coming post. So, stay tuned.

Not using proper grammer is absolutely one of my pet peves. Is this what I should expect when I ask a task be done?
