3 Mistakes to Avoid on Facebook

3 Mistakes to Avoid on Facebook

I’ve been scrolling through Facebook today in the morning while eating my scrambled eggs and what absolutely amazed me was how so many people are still making very basic (and honestly speaking easily avoidable) mistakes when it comes to publishing their Facebook posts.

As a midweek motivation I compiled this short and concise list of Facebook “faux pas” to help you leverage your profile from frustratingly mediocre to outstandingly brilliant:

  1. RULE NO.1: KEEP IT YOURS. Yes, we all sometimes happen to be exhausted, unproductive and uninspired. These are the times when we are particularly attracted to the easy solutions. “Borrowing” content created by others to increase the quality of our own business is a simple way out, but also not a very effective one. Think of it as a brand new car you borrowed just to get those amazed gasps of admiration. It makes you feel great, but you have to return it at the end of the day and no value whatsoever stays with you because the crowds go and admire yet another person with a great car. Yes, posts are effort. But in the longterm, if you want to be authentic and credible try not to direct your audiences to “useful content” created by others, make them want to stay with you. We at S&S Social Media recommend less external content and more focused and engaged posts from YOUR business. Simple as that.
  2. RULE NO.2: NO LINKS, BETTER POSTS. It is quite obvious that any business owner wants to keep the customers focused on their business and not get them distracted by the competition. Facebook is no different. It wants you to hang around their site for as long as it’s possibly feasible. That further explains why putting external links directly into your posts is not a particularly good approach when attempting to reach more audiences. How do I promote my other sites then, you might ask. Well, there are ways to get around this and outsmart Facebook’s infallible algorithm. Simply try putting your link in the comments instead of the body of the post itself or convert it into a bit.ly form- undercover like this, links will do you much less harm.
  3. RULE NO.3: TELL A STORY, GET A SALE. We all love street sellers who “imperceptibly” try to sell us their offerings, now don’t we? Of course we don’t. Then why would you want to be this kind of street seller when it comes to promoting your own business online? Let me tell you that shoving the prices of your products straight up peoples’ faces won’t help you sell it, no matter how out-of-this-world promotion or special offer you have in place. Try to keep the healthy 80/20 marketing rule and only directly try to sell it when you’ve already created enough value and context around your offering.

I hope this was valuable and I look forward to creating more posts for you. If your business would like to engage it's profitable niche then get in touch to arrange a chat.
