- Research the company and positions you are interviewing for before the interview. Even talk to some of the companyâs current employees.
- Show what you have to offer. Pick your top three skills or experiences and decide how you will communicate them.
- Showcase your problem-solving abilities, teamwork skills, adaptability, time management, communication, motivation, and values by highlighting academic projects, internships, part-time jobs, volunteer work, and leadership roles in student organizations.
- Think about YOUR questions in advance, and prepare intelligent questions to show your level of interest in the job. For example: What type of opportunities do you have for professional development and growth? Or What would you want to see me accomplish in the first 6 months?
- Practice answering common interview subjects and telling stories to feel more confident, perhaps a mock interview with a career counselor.
- Plan what to wear â ask the recruiter for the dress code. Is it business casual or formal?
- Follow up after the interview - Send a thank you email to the hiring manager within a day - Reiterate your interest.
- Bring several copies of your resume.
- Get comfortable with video interviews, after the pandemic, these have become more and more common.
- Donât be late!
Preparing for your video interview is just as important as preparing for that in-person interview. Whether it is your first video interview or your 50th, you still want to be prepared because no two interviews will be the same.
Check out some additional tips below!
- Test your technology. Download and make sure you have an account for the platform they are using â set it up and get familiar with it, do a few test calls so you know the settings â donât wait until the interview day. (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, and Webex are common platforms used for video interviews)
- Test equipment 15 to 30 minutes before the interview, and check the video and sound to ensure everything is in working order. Charge your computer.
- Plan what to wear â ask your recruiter for the dress code. Is it business casual or formal? First impressions are important.
- Find a quiet spot. Mute yourself when needed â for example, if a dog barks â familiarize yourself with how to toggle mute off and on.
- Analyze yourself âpractice by recording in selfie mode, answering common questions, and noting your eye contact with the camera.
- Introduce yourself, smile, be friendly and courteous, and respond to all questions professionally.
- Donât speak too fast; take breaths; there may be latency when communicating via video chat.
- We want to see confidence, authenticity, and overall interest from candidates â body language is key â nod, smile, use facial expressions, sit up straight, stay focused, and be visibly engaged.
- Do research. Look at the company website and get an understanding of their culture and values - the good thing about virtual is that you can subtly look at notes.
- Be on time!

1yDear Team Now days recruitment and talent acquisition in middle east is name sake process, first of all no company arranging interview with candidate, they just simply hired people feom their relatives or wel kown friends, especially in American companies, new talents are very rare to enter the system or company. HR and talent acquisition team is very pathetic, if they do some inteview to make a dramma, last results and selection will go for those people, the cv submitted by the company staff itself. Because of the relations or friends.. Most of the american and Europe companies are not hiring directly They are hiring via 3 rd party agency, because they agency and top management people made a settlement and the agency paying them monthly, so top management people interested to find talents through agency, instead hiring people direct No benefits wont pay to the talents and any time they can terminate people. Example, ABB, Schneider, SIEMENS, Bakerhuges, mcdermott, bechtel.. Well known companies are not able to monitor their old staffs, how they are making money through talent acquisition program. There is no clarity and transparent system for hiring talents.. Applying job and waiting for reply is nightmare in the current era market. People are hiring by back door policy throigh reference. Normal people still continue the application process, one day companies will open their eyes.. And find skilled talents in the right way of recruitment process..Â
