Today marks the anniversary of the passing of Kayode Owens, a remarkable leader whose vision and dedication continue to inspire us. Kayode was not only Unseen's fearless founder, but also the heart and soul of our mission to create meaningful opportunities for those often overlooked by traditional venture capital. Kayodeâs journey was one of determination and commitment to lifting up his community. His work was deeply personal, driven by his own experiences and the belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their background. Kayode is remembered by those who knew him as a compassionate and driven individual who constantly put others before himself. He was a mentor, a connector, and a champion for justice, whose legacy is one of breaking barriers and creating pathways for underrepresented entrepreneurs. His dedication to making the world a better place is something that continues to resonate with all who were touched by his life. Though Kayode is no longer with us, his vision and values continue to guide Unseen. We honor his memory by striving to make the world a more equitable place, one investment at a time.

SLAUSON SUMMER CAMP 2024 Building a company from the ground up requires an immense amount of dedication, hustle, and luck. For many entrepreneurs, work-life balance is non-existent. We believe that itâs important for founders to find time for rest and reflection. Slauson & Co. recently brought our founders together on the beaches of Monterey Bay for our annual retreat, providing them an opportunity, however brief, to unplug from their daily grind and connect on a deeper level with one another around their shared/unique experience(s) building venture backed businesses. By creating space for well-being and fostering authentic community, we hope to empower our founders with a renewed perspective to lead with more clarity and purpose in their businesses and personal lives. At the end of the day, better humans make better leaders. â»ï¸â»ï¸â»ï¸

Becoming comfortable with rejection is a vital aspect of personal growth & resilience. It transforms setbacks into learning moments and not every opportunity or relationship is meant for us, which is okay. Embracing rejection is about finding strength in vulnerability & seeing the growth opportunity in every "no." #personaldevelopment #growth #journey
Iâve been rejected so many times as a founder. Heck, Iâve almost been laughed out of a room after pitching to an investor. Itâs just part of the journey of entrepreneurship. Youâre going to hear ânoâ several times. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs have faced this before making a breakthrough ð J.K. Rowling was turned down by Bloomsbury TWELVE times before they agreed to publish Harry Potter ð Googleâs co-founders were turned down by an investor after offering to for just $1million. 5 months later they raised $25million. Itâs tough, but donât let these moments tear you down. Use them as fuel. Hereâs a few words of encouragementðð» #FounderStories #Motivation #PersonalDevelopment #Founders

Given my role as Venture Partner, and work in the VC world, I've seen thousands of pitches. I'm always asked by entrepreneurs about how to pitch and what investors are looking to hear. While it does vary based on the individual investor or fund, I've created a series of tips that I will post each week for entrepreneurs in my network. Some seem obvious but are often overlooked. Here is the second pitching tip of the week: Talk about your team's background, story and what makes this a winning team. This is crucial as investors are often investing in the team even more so than they are the actual product/idea.
