The #1 thing I wish I knew as a new school leader. ðŸ‘‡ðŸ¾ Seek to understand people, accept them for who they are, and then decide if they are a good fit for the school or district. Before learning this, I would try to mold people into my version of what I believed was a â€œgood fitâ€ for the school. Experience taught me that itâ€™s best to get to know people and allow them to be who they are. This way you avoid trying to make someone a person they were never meant to be, creating personal mis-alignment that negatively impacts the school. Have you done this before? We often hear teachers, leaders, parents and students use the word â€˜understandâ€™. â€œHave you understood? What is your understanding? Share your understanding?â€ I too have heard and used it many times! For me it is that piece of knowledge/ information which was deciphered / perceived in a way that I believe to be correct and I stand for it.
