Happy Arbor Day! Created to inspire people to plant and nurture trees, Arbor Day also celebrates the managed forests that give us sustainable wood products. Did you know that... ð² Responsible forest management has resulted in more than 50 consecutive years of net forest growth in North America. ð² 1.39 billion conifer seedlings are produced annually, or 36.8 per every million board feet produced. ð² Forest thinning and other management practices mitigate wildfires, cut carbon emissions, expand wildlife habitat, and create jobs in rural areas. What do Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota all have in common? We're connected by trees! The Great Lakes Northwoods stretch across all three of our states, comprising over 60 million wooded acres of critical landscape. This vital landscape filters and provides high-quality freshwater, maintains species biodiversity, and naturally stores carbon. Previously decimated by large-scale logging and clearing by European settlers, parts of the Northwoods are still recovering, but we're seeing great signs of progress. Large portions of the Northwoods are bouncing back thanks to protection of forest lands and the adoption of sustainable timber harvest practices. As the forest ages and expands into areas that were once cleared for farmland, the animals that depend on this habitat are returning also. Here in Michigan, TNC owns and manages more than 96,000 acres of these woods in the Upper Peninsula, including the newly-expanded Wilderness Lakes Reserve. Just six months after the deployment of our artificial reefs, we witnessed transformative results for our local fishermen in Pondicherry. Embracing sustainable fishing practices, now they are earning between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 daily, a significant uplift from their previous income. This success is complemented by their transition to hook-and-line methods, ensuring only adult fish are caught and safeguarding our juvenile marine life. This project is not just about enhancing livelihoods; it's a stride towards ecological sustainability, demonstrating the profound impact of our collective efforts towards conservation. This achievement is a clear testament to the power of sustainable initiatives in transforming lives and revitalising our oceans. It reinforces our belief that together, we can overcome challenges and build a brighter, more sustainable future for the coastal communities of Pondicherry.

ð¿ð² Re-Spire Westerwald: A Meaningful Visit ð²ð¿ Recently, our partnerships team and our nature-based solution team joined forces for a visit to Re-Spire Westerwald in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate! Our collaboration on this trip was truly insightful. Over the years, the area has been ravaged by storms, droughts, and bark beetles, but now, we're witnessing the seeds of change being sown.  Amidst the 1500 hectares of forest, our project focuses on a crucial 94.8 hectares. We're not just planting trees; we're cultivating a resilient mixed forest comprising 18-19 tree species. These aren't just any trees; they're climate-tolerant species that will withstand the changing weather patterns, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.  Climate change is an ongoing reality, with its impacts becoming increasingly evident. The rising temperatures of recent years have contributed to the proliferation of bark beetles, which have infested and damaged spruce trees, impacting forest health and resilience. This development reflects the urgency of addressing climate change and its far-reaching consequences.  During our visit, we observed the growth of young Larch trees, a promising sign for the future health of the forest ecosystem. The visible impact of neglect highlighted the critical importance of implementing sustainable forest management practices as a necessary step towards preserving the long-term viability and resilience of these natural habitats.  But it's not just about trees; it's about coexisting with wildlife too. From deer to wildcats, and a myriad of birds and insects, this forest is a thriving ecosystem in the making. We're not just rebuilding; we're restoring balance to nature.  Our call to action is clear: we need to act now. The urgency to regenerate our forests is paramount.   ð±At FORLIANCE, we understand the critical role sustainable forest management plays in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity. We invite you to connect with us and join forces. Here are some pictures of our inspiring visit. #ReSpireWesterwald #sustainability #forestregeneration #FORLIANCE #ReSpireWesterwald #natureconservation #forestrejuvenation #FORLIANCE

ð Together, we can create a healthier planet for people and wildlife. ð ð¾ Rewild Carbon, Durrell's impactful nature-based solution, reduces carbon in the atmosphere by rewilding threatened ecosystems. ð The Atlantic Forest of Brazil is one of the most species-rich habitats on the planet, yet it has become severely fragmented due to human activities. We are planting tree corridors, linking fragments of forest to create lifelines for wildlife such as black lion tamarins. âï¸ As of December 2023, Rewild Carbon investors have helped Durrell and our partners @ipê---instituto-de-pesquisas-ecológicas to: ð³ begin restoring 136 hectares of forest ð¿ plant and nurture 236,859 native-species trees âï¸ which will absorb 61,097.3 tonnes of CO2 ð¥ support 123 jobs in the local community ð Rewild your businesses' carbon footprint https://lnkd.in/g2s4DZf7 ð· Laury Cullen / IPÃ

Happy World Environment Day! ð As an enviro, I celebrate world environment day every day by helping our teams navigate maintaining operations while minimising the impacts on our environment and surrounding communities. With so many of us living in cities now, it can be easy to feel disconnected for the environment around us so here are some ideas about reconnecting and celebrating World Environment Day: * Plant a local tree or shrub species: Get your hands dirty and plant a tree with your family. Itâs a ripper way to make a difference and enjoy the great outdoors. Now that itâs cooled off, itâs a great time to be planting. *Spread the Word: Have a chat with your mates and family about the importance of maintaining biodiversity, even in city areas. The more people know, the bigger the impact we can make together. *Learn about your local Bioregion: If you're in NSW, click below to find your local bioregion and learn about what makes it so special. https://lnkd.in/gvP_wKDK

Milestone Alert: 10,000 Hectares of Land for Nature! ðð¿ This month, weâre celebrating a milestone achievement by our Business Conservation Advice Unit (BCA) in partnership with forward-thinking businesses.  A whole 10,000 hectares of land well-managed for nature - and dedicated to boosting biodiversity.  Thatâs an area of land equivalent to the size of Manchester, 227 golf courses, or 10 RSPB Minsmere nature reserves!  The BCA team has worked tirelessly alongside dedicated partners such as CEMEX UK, Lightrock Power, South Western Railway, idverde UK, Barratt Developments plc, and The Royal & Ancient (The R&A) to turn spaces that were once devoid of biodiversity into well-managed habitats, providing a haven for priority species and wildlife.  ð¬ From our Head of the BCA, Sam Tarrant: "The results we have achieved provide clear proof that, with the right help, nature can bounce back and that businesses can and do make a difference."  For over 100 years, the RSPB has worked tirelessly to protect nature in the UK. But the scale of the challenge demands collaboration. It's clear: to preserve our natural world for future generations, we need the commitment and action of businesses alongside us.  Through all our business engagement work we are supporting organisations to transition to ways of working that protect and restore nature. ð¤ Continue the momentum and reach out to the RSPB's business team today: businessadvice@rspb.org.uk ð Plus, discover the RSPB's BCA Unit's Impact report, showcasing some of the great work of our partners here: https://bit.ly/3I0xzNS #SustainableBusiness
