ð¡ Speaker Spotlight ð¡ (5 CEs) | Virtual | Oct. 5 | Session Title: The Reciprocal Effects of Attachment and PMADs Abstract: Perinatal and Infant mental health outcomes are recognized as intertwined; however, discussions about one frequently only briefly mention the other. The available research suggests that the bond between a new parent and infant are drastically impacted by one another. PMADs are considered to have detrimental effects on infants' formation of their attachment with their primary caregivers. Conversely, positive interactions with their baby have shown to have regulatory effects on caregivers suffering from PMADs. Further, as more positive interactions occur, they build on establishing a secure attachment. As we, as providers, use attachment to both identify and intervene with PMADs, we have a chance at reducing the unwanted or harmful effects that PMADs can have on the entire family system. #SpeakerSpotlight #AttachmentTheory #PMADs #PerinatalMentalHealth #InfantMentalHealth #SecureAttachment #ParentInfantBonding #FamilyWellness #MentalHealthSupport #PerinatalCare #PositiveParenting #CaregiverSupport #MentalHealthOutcomes #AttachmentAndMentalHealth #FamilySystem https://lnkd.in/g7KUDwkP

Itâs National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, another time for us to reflect on the specific mental health challenges racial and ethnic minorities face, and pledge action to overcome the obstacles they encounter to receiving care. According to the FDA Office of Womenâs Health, those include less access to treatment and stigma, among others. As a health system guided by the principles of compassion, dignity and respect, and which cares for people of all backgrounds, we continue to find ways to close gaps in care and improve health equity. This yearâs theme is Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities and Connections, LEARN more about it and ways to take action from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) -> https://bit.ly/3XZgf4U #MJHSdei #SourceForBetterHealth #MinorityHealth #NMHM24

The link between social connection and health outcomes is as clear as day. Research shows that socially connected individuals lead longer lives, they experience better physical and mental health, and overall well-being. And what better an opportunity than to connect with a new parent or caregiver who are more likely to experience social isolation and perinatal depression. I am Prevention. You are prevention. Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, we recognize the importance of mental health for allâand the unique challenges faced by communities of color in accessing equitable care. Despite growing awareness, disparities in mental health care continue to impact these communities, leaving many without the support they deserve. Cultural stigma, lack of access to culturally competent care, and systemic inequities in healthcare delivery all contribute to this gap. Itâs time to break down these barriers. By advocating for inclusive policies, expanding access to affordable care, and fostering understanding, we can build a mental health system that serves everyoneâregardless of race or background. Letâs stand together in the fight for health equity and make mental wellness a reality for all. ðð #HealthEquity #MentalHealthForAll #CommunitiesOfColor #EndTheStigma

HHS Region 10 hosted OPA for a community discussion on Take Action for Adolescents: A Call to Action for Adolescent Health and Well-Being. Representatives of state and local health care providers and youth-serving organizations joined this community dialogue to emphasize a commitment to supporting young people. They discussed how policies and practices can make it difficult to coordinate efforts and identified mental health as one of the biggest challenges facing young people today. Participants shared: - Ways that their organizations could promote adolescent health and well-being; - The expertise and resources they bring to that effort; - Groups or organizations they want to partner with; and - Perspectives that have historically been missing from the conversation. Although White populations exhibit the highest prevalence of mental health diagnoses, it is non-White populations that often bear a disproportionate share of the costs associated with mental health struggles. This disparity stems from a combination of socioeconomic factors, healthcare access issues, and cultural stigmas that affect non-White communities more severely. Addressing these disparities requires targeted efforts to improve mental health literacy, expand access to culturally competent care, and reduce socioeconomic barriers. By ensuring that non-White populations receive early and appropriate mental health interventions, we can mitigate the long-term costs and improve overall health outcomes for these communities.
