These "surprises" from @justinbateh are great reminders for all of us in tech and business. What would you add to this list of "lessons learned"? Think about the skills required to be successful in any role: - Know your team and leverage their strengths - Have a plan and then work the plan; it will not be the one you started with. Be rigid where needed, but flexibility and adaptability to rapid changes are essential competencies. - Listen...those small details are sometimes what isn't said or who isn't talking. - Building and nurturing relationships early and often are keys to success. You will be tested, as will those relationships during the highs and the lows. Don't put this off until there is a fire. - How you handle failure is just as important as success. If you aren't failing, you aren't trying hard enough. Take on tough tasks, projects, teams, problems, etc. All the easy ones are already solved or don't have an impact. So try, learn, fail, try, repeat! - A good attitude and genuine awareness of the feelings, hopes, and dreams of those around you will go a long way. - Start with the business problem and work backward. Tech and tools are great when they are the right solution to the right problem. Don't ignore relationships, processes, culture, and how things are connected to each other. This ensures you aren't "automating a mess" or delivering an amazing solution to the wrong problem. #thoughtleadership #projectmanagement #businessrelationshipmanagement

Think long-term impact first to avoid being gripped too tightly by tough experiences. Stubbed your toe? Will it still hurt in 5 minutes? Tough feedback? Will it still be stinging next week? Thorny project issue? Will it still be on your tracker next monthly update? Let the grand plan play out and sail past the bumps.
