You know that Peterborough Humane Society receives pets in all sorts of physical and mental conditions, heals them and then adopts them to their fur-ever family. But what you might not know is we offer emergency boarding to pets of individuals feeling domestic violence. We provide these pets love and care for up to 30 days (before we re-engage with the owner) without cost to the individual. We can do this work because of supporters donating to our SNOOY (Safe Nights for Pets) fund. Now we want to expand SNOOPY to include individuals that are experiencing non-preventable situations like fire, flood and hospitalizations. But we need money to ensure we can help more individuals. This is where you come in. Please vote for our submission (link below) in the Community Contest presented by McDougall Insurance & Financial. This is a popularity contest and you can vote once a day per email. Voting ends next Friday so please vote now and tell someone else to vote for us. https://lnkd.in/ggvvhjyV

Can you imagine having to choose between a home and your beloved pet? This is the heartbreaking reality for many Canadians. Over 60% of households in Canada have cats or dogs, and more than 70% see them as family members. Sadly, the shortage of pet-friendly housing in our country is a major problem, making many families choose between a home and keeping their companion animals. Many shelters are at capacity, dealing with an influx of surrenders from families facing this reality. From August to September 10, our goal is to raise $10,000 through our Tails of Summer Challenge. By donating today, youâre helping us to continue to work with policymakers, raise public awareness, and support pet owners facing housing challenges. Every dollar raised in support of our work brings us closer to a Canada where no one has to choose between their home and their companion animal family members. Give today to make a difference https://lnkd.in/gn5VEQhX

As many of you know, I am an animal lover and passionate advocate for bully breed dogs. This year I am honored to serve on the Board for The Love Pit Rescue, and today I'm asking you to help us save pups, and allow me to DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT because it's the most important day of the year for The Love Pit: North Texas Giving Day! Donate now and your gift will be doubled, with the help of a match by our incredible board! This NTGD, one of TLP's main focuses (and a favorite of mine) is its new iStayHome Program, which helps us keep beloved family members where they belong. Financial hardships and housing issues are plaguing dog owners more than ever in this economy. Itâs time for us not to chastise folks who are facing these challenges, but rather to offer them a helping hand that keeps a dog that may end up in the shelter with its family. The iStayHome Program does just that, allowing us to provide grants for medical care, supplies, temporary housing or other needs with one simple goal: keeping dogs OUT of the shelters and in the arms of their families. Dallas shelters continue to face record capacity routinely staying at 150%+. We cannot adopt our way out of this crisis, but we can support strategic initiatives to keep dogs out of the shelter in the first place. The iStayHome program does just that. I canât think of a better feeling than knowing others get the joy of keeping their families whole this NTGD. After all, a house isnât a home without a dog.....or 4 :) ). This year, we're hoping to make it our biggest year yet, with the help of a $40,000 match from our amazing board! Wonât you consider making a gift in support of this mission today? https://lnkd.in/diRrzEPV

First of all, I am a dog lover. we have a Yorkie named Scooter We have a cat named Ambush, that took up with us when he was dumped. The somewhat staged ads that the ASPCA runs are very expensive and really tug at your heart. That's the point. So I did a little research on them and was appalled to find out that about 42 cents of every dollar goes to Executive salaries, administrative costs, and ads. The CEO makes over A million dollars annually and other executives are over $200K annually. Even the basic caregivers make more than many teachers and policemen. These figures are in the public domain and if they are inaccurate, please make corrections This is way out of line from most charitable organizations which are closer to 20 cents out of each dollar or less. Tunnels to towers only spends about 5 cents on the dollar on salaries and administration. Meanwhile, most local animal shelters are underfunded and not supported by the ASPCA My point is this. Adopt your pets from local animal shelters and donate there. Many employees or volunteers are barely compensated for their time and serve out of the goodness of their hearts.

URGENT - On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Parachutes for Pets was activated as emergency support for those fleeing the Fort McMurray wildfires with pets. Although most evacuees were headed to the Edmonton area, nonprofits are struggling across Alberta and the pet resources are extremely limited. Within 24 hours Parachutes for Pets had sent multiple loads of pet supplies, and emergency pet packs to Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and Lac La Biche. They had also arranged for over 40 pets in the Edmonton area to have safekeeping and six to receive vet care for wildfire related medical concerns. Their team has also seen 8 pets arrive to Calgary with their families. They currently have 4 of them in their safekeeping program, and the rest have popped into Parachutes to get the essential supplies they had to leave behind. At a time when their regular need for services has increased, and the prediction of a long, dry summer ahead - they need to humbly ask for support to ensure our efforts can continue. Can you help? Call their team at 368-999-6460 1. Follow them on social media 2. Volunteer - to safekeep evacuated pets, pick up and deliver donations, etc. 3. Donate pet supplies - thanks to our partners at Doodle Dogs 4. Financial Donations (instant tax receipts delivered to your inbox) - enable us to address urgent needs in the moment https://lnkd.in/gGwnCA5w

"Great job by the LEOs in EVERY aspect of the situation!! All the drama about the dog⦠As the daughter of an LEO raised with K9s and German shepherds, they were absolutely correct to be cautious and wonder about the dogâs behavior regardless of the current wagging tail. Personal experience: as a child my parents let me keep one of the German shepherds that was too old to start with the dept. We were incredibly bonded. Our driveway was huge and there were stairs leading to the porch. My dog was 100% friendly in the driveway. Tail wagging, licking, happy for pets. But the moment anyone attempted to cross that first step without my parents escorting them, she would and had on 2 occasions bit someone. She did not attack them. She bit them to say, âthis is my turf and my child is here. You donât have permission from my owners. You canât come closerâ This is what happens when they go into protection mode. They can be the sweetest happiest tail wagging pup but the moment you cross that boundary, their job is to protect their family. Maybe the word choice could have been different. Honestly though, they were concentrated on saving a childâs life. Not being politically correct in their word choice for possible dog behavioral changes. They did an amazing job and everyone is safe! Thatâs what matters! ð¤ðð¤ (Note: she was not put down nor deemed vicious. The 2 people who were bit were fully aware that they crossed her boundary and she was warning them. Humans have trouble respecting theirs and others boundaries. Let alone remembering animals have them too.)" For #NationalPetMonth, we want to share with you some of the positive impacts owning a pet can have and why protecting the human-animal bond is so important: ð¾Pet owners are less likely to suffer from depression than those without pets ð¾ People with pets often have lower blood pressure in stressful situations ð¾ By participating in playtime with pets, owners may see an elevation of serotonin and dopamine which can help keep owners calm and relaxed ð¾ Pets provide companionship, especially for those experiencing homelessness ð¾ Pets can help owners meet new people ð¾ Owning a pet can offer comfort and as a result reduce anxiety ð¾ Pets can offer structure and routine ð¾ Pets can provide sensory stress relief such as touch and movement which are two great healthy ways to quickly manage stress Don't just take our word for it! Take a look at Debs and Bluebell's story to see for yourself the great benefits of owning a pet, especially for those experiencing homelessness ð Deb is now doing well, training in a new career and embarking on her own fundraising journey for StreetVet as she wants to be able to give something back to StreetVet for all the help and support they received. She will soon be skydiving for StreetVet to raise money to help other owners and pets experiencing homelessness. You can show your support to Deb by donating here: https://gofund.me/ba4056fa #StreetVet #HumanAnimalBond #Petsareimportant

What a great initiative VCA Animal Hospitals. And what a wonderful picture... Talking of pictures, this completely fits into my picture of VCA Animal Hospitals: They are organized, well-run, and very deliberate, with a clear purpose and mission. That's why they are doing this. That's why they get around to doing this! Over the last eight months, I have visited over 120 veterinary clinics, some of them several times, to discuss the Rainbow Box and its benefits for the clinic, their staff, and their clients. When you walk into a veterinary practice, you only have to observe for a few minutes to get a good read on whether it is organized (minus the chaos that sometimes happens). You can actually smell it. Odor control is one of those things: if you don't tackle odors consistentlyâif it's an afterthought or something you do 'when you have the time'âit's not going to be effective. And this applies to every aspect of running a business/ clinic. If afterlife care is an afterthought, if it only happens when somebody takes personal initiative or the intern has some extra time, you miss out on an opportunity to reconnect with your loyal clients. Most importantly, their clients miss out- in a moment when they need it the most. No time in a pet owner's life has more gravitas than the moment he decides to let go and, more importantly, the days, weeks, and months after. When you walk out of the clinic with an empty leash, something very important in your life is suddenly missing... I know exactly what I am talking about. A few days ago, our vet burdened me with making this decision for my companion, Bentley. He is still fine right now (mostly), hanging in there, but the clock is ticking. My clock is ticking. You don't want to be early, but you do not want to be too late: missing the opportunity to provide a 'good death' when it was still time. Even with hindsight, you will not know if you were earlyâyou only know when it was too late. And it can haunt youâfor a long time, sometimes for the rest of your life. Again, an organized and well-run clinic will help you with this. It's a process; nothing you (want to) decide on the spot. Luckily, I still have some time. Hopefully, weeks or a month even...
VCA Charities and our 20+ shelter partners have taken more than 5,000 shelter dogs on field trips since the start of the Dog Day Out program. This has led to a reported increase in adoption, foster, or rescue placement for these shelter dogs. #AdoptaDogMonthÂ

Did you know that if you have a pacemaker, you can include it in your Will to be donated to a Dog or Cat in need after you pass away? Although pacemakers cannot be used for another human, they can help Dogs with heart problems and potentially save their lives. You can arrange for the pacemaker to be sent to a vet of your choice. Many pacemakers are simply thrown away, and Dogs may die because people do not know about this option. Donating the pacemaker can even save the Dogâs owner the cost of a new one, which can sometimes make a crucial difference in affording life-saving treatment Dogs Of LinkedIn, Dogs Trust, Dogs 4 Rescue, Cats Protection please share #pacemakerdonation #pethealth #secondchances

Comforter of the Grieving. Creator of MemoriaLeaf pins & coins. Life Celebrant, Funeral Director/Embalmer.
While this idea has merit, your last will & testament is the wrong place for this information, as the will is generally read after disposition has taken place. Tell your next of kin your wishes. Better yet, pre-plan your final arrangements with your funeral home (this is a free service). Your wishes will be in the hands of those who can make it happen. #funeral #preplanning #bodydonation #recycle #medicaldevicerecycling
