🌿 Bellway Homes Steps Up for Biodiversity! 🌍🏡 🌸Exciting news from Bellway, as they join forces with environmental conservation charity Plantlife International to boost biodiversity across their sites! 🦋🏡The Newcastle-based developer is on a mission to introduce more natural habitats, designing show home gardens with wild plants, insects, and birds. The goal? To inspire buyers to continue this eco-friendly trend in their own spaces. 💚 Bellway commits to achieving a 10% biodiversity net gain on all new schemes submitted from July 2023 onwards. Today is World Nature Conservation Day, and it's all about raising awareness for protecting natural habitats and preserving biodiversity.  Sustainability is in the core of our foundations. We're incredibly proud to team up with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), an organisation doing groundbreaking work to conserve animals and their habitats worldwide. We’re committed to partnering with ZSL in enabling them to run conservation projects to protect endangered species and promote biodiversity. Here are just some of the great things the teams have done to support their amazing work: - We procure all our timber from FSC companies with chain of custodies provided for ZSL - We created mud shoes for the conservation team so they could do their work out in the estuaries and wetlands (we have done a post about this before tho as attached) - We have created transport crates for the partula snails to travel back to Polynesia – to date 15,000 of these have been reintroduced together with the international zoo community Beyond our work with ZSL, we’re committed to sustainability in all areas of our business: Reducing our carbon footprint with electric vehicles. Implementing energy-efficient solutions for us and our clients. 🌳 Nature is our greatest asset; our estate is compromised of more than 2,300 hectares of land -almost a third of this is green- which supports more than 1,000 animal species and almost 700 plant species. That’s why, as Transport for London's property company, we’re proud to see the publication of a new Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Plan which embeds our Sustainable Development Framework Dimension ‘Climate and Ecological Resilience’, to ensure that we are doing all we can to protect, connect and enhance the green infrastructure across our estate. 🌿 South Downs National Park: Leading the Way in Nature Recovery 🌿 The South Downs National Park is proving that large-scale nature restoration is possible and they are now leading the way by setting and delivering ambitious targets. Since 2021, the park has transformed over 6,000 hectares of land, aiming for 13,000 hectares by 2030. This includes planting nearly 50,000 trees and adding over 100 hectares of wildflower meadows. The park’s success is driven by over 350 collaborative projects with various organisations, creating new wildflower meadows, hedgerows, wetlands, heathlands, woodlands, and chalk grasslands. Exploring a range of grazing strategies also play a crucial role. Exmoor ponies, Southdown sheep, cattle, and goats are used to manage vegetation, control invasive species, and maintain open habitats, fostering a thriving ecosystem. Beyond biodiversity, these efforts contribute to community health and well-being by providing accessible green spaces for people to connect with nature. We’ve released a new Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Plan, as part of our continuing work to become the strong, green heartbeat for London 💚 This will drive progress on our aim to protect, connect and enhance green infrastructure and biodiversity which benefits people and wildlife. The Sustainable Finance for Tiger Landscapes Conference concluded today on a high note, marking a historic moment for global conservation efforts. The conference was opened yesterday by Her Majesty The Queen of Bhutan, under whose patronage this effort to mobilise greater support for protecting tigers and tiger landscapes has come to fruition. In an address at the opening ceremony, Her Majesty spoke about the urgency of protecting tiger habitats to safeguard the wellbeing of our planet, and the importance of sustainable funding to carry out this task. Her Majesty said "In our commitment to conservation, we must not neglect the realistic and vital need for sustainable funding. All too often, the invaluable work of conservationists is impeded by the unpredictability of financial support.
