Who caught “the comeback of the catalog” on the Today Show — or in your mailbox?   It’s true, catalogs are back and better than ever, with brands like J. Crew and Neiman Marcus reviving their discontinued catalogs and others introducing them for the first time in recent years (have you received your holiday Amazon toy catalog yet?).    At Quad, we’ve had a front row seat to the resurgence of this medium with our own printing presses creating some of your favorite catalogs past, present and future. Here’s why we’re not surprised by this catalog renaissance:   Today’s consumers are inundated with digital content at every turn. At the same time, they crave nostalgia. Flipping through a catalog is a welcome break and an even more pleasant experience than scrolling.    Printed materials like catalogs and other direct mail have the ability to cut through the noise and connect with consumers in a way that digital often can’t. After all, you can’t circle and earmark the pages of this year’s must-have gifts on a screen.   It’s exciting to see brands returning to catalogs in new and inventive ways — and though I might be biased, I can’t wait to see how marketers will continue to make print feel new again!   https://lnkd.in/gpaJSWxQ

I think you missed another driver for this. Electronic ads and electronic catalogues can be fairly easily blocked. Unfortunately this junk in our physical mailbox cannot. Maybe as Elon works on cost cutting he will raise the price of delivering these via mail to the actual cost so US taxpayers will not be supplementing these companies mailings. 🤔

Love, love, love this Joel Quadracci - ❤️ seeing these catalogs in my mailbox the way I love seeing my print magazines - my favorite gifted every year by my daughter for my birthday. ❤️ knowing the enormous tangible power of print and storytelling in consumer hands, homes and hearts. ❤️ the unstoppable Quad marketing, printing and logistics prowess that never gives up on innovating that inspires the industry and entire supply chain from paper to consumer.

I have fond memories of looking through holiday catalogs as a child. Now, as a parent encouraging my own kids to talk and prioritize about what they want to request under the Christmas tree (WITHOUT encouraging screen time!) we have a new appreciation for printed catalogs.

I always loved flipping through the giant holiday catalogs as a kid, circling everything I wanted, knowing it was just a pipe dream (a paper Pinterest), and then my parents using them as my booster seat at the kitchen table. I always wished I’d been born earlier so that I could have worked on their production. Perhaps my time has arrived!

Awesome! What a come back 😊
