⨠Halloween Safety Tips ⨠(from your friendly neighborhood 911 dispatcher) - Make sure your children are visible while trick-or-treating. Reflective tape/vests and glow sticks are helpful! Trick-or-treat in well lit areas that are familiar to you and your children. - Make a safety plan with your children in the event you get separated from one another while trick-or-treating. I told my kids to go to the nearest street light and put their arm around the pole. Streetlights are easy to spot, well it, recognizable, and provide something for them to hold onto so they don't wander while you're looking for them. - Triple check the surroundings of your vehicle before reversing or driving, especially if your neighborhood gets a lot of trick-or-treaters. It can be helpful to have one person outside your vehicle watching your surroundings while you reverse. Pay close attention while driving on streets with lots of cars parked or lots of trees that make it harder to see the sidewalks. - Check your children's Halloween candy. You should be checking for anything homemade, choking hazards, discolored items, wrappers partially open, wrappers that have been taped/tampered with, or really anything out of the ordinary. When in doubt, throw it out! - Keep your home/property well lit, doors and windows locked, and vehicles locked. Halloween is a time of practical jokes, partying, and breaking and entering. Making sure your home and property are secure and well lit is one way to ensure a safe Halloween night. - In the event you need to call 911 tonight, the most important thing you need to know is where you are: pay attention to your surroundings, take notice of house numbers and landmarks, and enable emergency location services on your cell phone. I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy Halloween night! ð . . . What would you add to the list?? #Halloween #SafetyTips #Dispatch #SafetyFirst #TrickOrTreat
