Jesse Armstrong is a finalist for the Apex Awards CEO of the Year!
I want to share a story that even our longtime partners and clients probably don't know...
Jesse hired me when i was 16. While all of my friends were working fast food and retail, I started working in IT services. It was never my goal to start a career. I just wanted something better than my friends.
I assumed Jesse though I was a prodigy. Turns out you don't have to be a prodigy when you make $6/hr (way more than my friends). Jesse and I quickly connected on one thing:
The customer.
IT services were not built through the eyes, or value prop, of the end customer. They were built selfishly by the people in the late '90s who hoarded the knowledge. Jesse and I saw it differently. We worked differently.
A few years later, we made the leap and got into business together and connected over another thing:
Our employees.
With a constant focus of scaling a people-focused organization, Jesse and I traded chairs a few times over the last 20+ years. Never worried about individual credit. Always focused on building something incredible.
We've continued our growth together as Greystone became a valuable part of the New Charter Technologies platform. As I've moved into a new role at New Charter, Jesse and I are doing a lot less "together". It's both humbling and exciting to see how he's steered Greystone to the best version it's ever been. He deserves the credit he hasn't gotten enough of.
I tell people that I don't know that I could ever do another 50/50 partnership. Not because this is one of those partnership horror stories. Because what are the chances that lightning strikes twice?
I don't get a vote in this competition, but it doesn't matter. He's already won.
Greystone v2024 is the best IT provider and the best IT employer I've ever seen. Never perfect, but never stopping. I can say that more objectively now (although I'll always be biased).
Cheers to another 25+ years.

Figuring out your own superpower can be hard. Itâs not something that we often think about, but is something that can help guide our focus. Start by asking yourself:
What do people come to you for?
What do people compliment you on?
What recommendations/testimonials have you received?
