🌍 Celebrating World Conservation Day: The Majestic Baobabs of Oppierandjie 🌿 In honour of the recent World Conservation Day, we shine a spotlight on the majestic Baobab trees of Oppierandjie, one of our esteemed Northern Producers in Limpopo Province, South Africa. These ancient giants, with some estimated to be 2000-2500 years old in the mango orchards and others 100-250 years old in the chili fields, are a living testament to nature's resilience and beauty. At Oppierandjie, 43 Baobabs grace the fields, a protected species under South African law since 1941. These iconic trees, often called "upside-down trees" due to their unique appearance, provide not just visual splendor but also ecological benefits, supporting a wide range of wildlife and local communities. In addition to these remarkable trees, Oppierandjie is dedicated to conservation, preserving two-thirds of the farm in its natural state. This commitment to maintaining the wild landscape alongside sustainable farming practices exemplifies the balance between agriculture and environmental stewardship. As a social enterprise non-governmental organization, CEET's mission and purpose, of rural conservation and education, are central to our existence. Our work is driven by our objective to deliver on that mission, so it is critical that we have concrete evidence of our progress toward our goals. This is where impact measurement can be helpful, but it is crucial that we make impact measurement beneficial to our organization and ourselves. Effective impact measurement supports our key performance indicators and the general effectiveness of our organization in addition to fostering more partnerships. We have conducted an impact analysis of the work we have done over the last four years since our founding in 2020, and the results are extremely remarkable and encouraging for the future. Working with partners and stakeholders Meat Naturally Pty, TASC, SA Biodiversity South African National Biodiversity Institute, Conservation South Africa, Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency has been key to achieving impact, and we would like to share this reflection as we solider on as a rural based grassroots NGO in South Africa. 📢 Conflict-free water in Kunene. We are excited to present the progress we have made in the Kunene Highlands of Namibia over Quarter 2 of 2024! Our priority for Kunene was to improve water access for both people and wildlife to reduce conflict over scarce or dysfunctional water points. Water Point Committees & Training: We've successfully established six water point committees and trained caretakers for each water point to ensure that the waterpoints remain functional and sustainable. Baseline Surveys: We have prepared to conduct household surveys to provide socioeconomic data for appropriate planning of potential rangeland restoration and carbon projects Tourism Development: We facilitated discussions between a tourism investor, Forgotten Valley Ltd., and the Orupupa Conservancy Committee to discuss a joint venture contract to build a 12-bed camp at Ekoto. Do you know what a biodiversity hotspot is? To be identified as a biodiversity hotspot, an eco-system must contain at least 1,500 species of plants that can’t be found anywhere else on earth and have lost at least 70% of its primary vegetation.  The wetland ecosystems of Anlung Pring and Boeung Prek Lapouv in the Lower Mekong Delta, Cambodia are one such hotspot – but you’ll be pleased to hear that the L’OCCITANE Foundation has been supporting the Wildfowl & Wetland Trust since 2022, as they work to restore and protect this precious landscape. The project aims to introduce sustainable agricultural practices, reduce pressure on the wetlands and have a positive influence on the protected species that thrive there. #WorldWetlandsDay #protectbiodiversity #LOCCITANEFoundation #LOCCITANEenProvence
