In 2023, our friends at the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF) set out to explore obstacles and opportunities for heightened collaboration among generations. Now, The #BTeam is excited to share the findings: 🤝 96% believe intergenerational collaboration holds significant value and can generate positive change; 🙋♀️  87% recognize the powerful potential of youth ideas and solutions in addressing global challenges; ❗ But only 19% agree that youth are currently given enough opportunities to lead and contribute to important social issues. There is POWER in women (and allies) coming together! What a FILLING day attending BCEA’s THRIVE conference! Loved connecting, sharing and learning with women and allies from the industry. ❤️ There was tremendous experience and skills in that room, and what power lies in the community to embrace each other, encourage, advocate and build up the electrical industry with talented women. Although still 3:1 ratio, there is progress and some incredible allies. (We need more!) 🙌 I am grateful to be one of the conference speakers and share on the BCEA LEAN IN circles pilot from 2023/2024 and workshop the group through self-reflection on the theme of mentorship exploring what’s strong in us, what opportunities need, what learning we need/want and a reflection around their personal board of directors in six roles (Sponsor, Mentor, Cheerleader, Counsellor, Inspiration, Expert). 🛑 It takes courage to allow ourselves to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN and even more courage sometimes to ACT in our careers by finding the right people that will help us understand our realities, help us create the seed that will allow us to bloom where we are planted or grow forward. 🌼 Remember: Where I am today is my starting point. Who I am today is my starting point. My failures and successes of the past, my fears and hopes of the future are all shadows. Today is my reality, and I'll use it to create my world. While inclusivity is vital, it's crucial to remember that the effectiveness of collective decision-making isn't solely about having a community to decide. It's fundamentally about the quality of the minds within this community. The strength of a decision doesn't come from the number of people who agree with it but from the collective wisdom and quality of thought behind it. A decision shaped by collective intelligence, where members bring diverse perspectives, deep knowledge, and critical thinking, can lead to innovative and sustainable outcomes. On the other hand, collective decision-making without a foundation of informed, thoughtful participation can lead to what is often termed "collective stupidity."
