Different views? Different approaches? Who is legit? Who can I listen to?
When it comes to career advice, there are so many people out there who are coaching, resume writing, interview prepping, etc..., but how can you differentiate who is legit and who is not.
Like most of you, I've been getting the DM's where supposed career coaches/resume writers from all around the world are looking to help me build a resume, but they are also, a) on the other side of the world, b) have 0 profile, c) 0 connections, and d) don't have a pic on their linkedin ,so..... I decline.
So, how can you find the right coach to work with?
- Look for a career coach who specializes in your field or industry. Their knowledge of the specific challenges and opportunities within your profession can make a huge difference in the guidance you receive.
- A strong career coach will have success stories and positive feedback from individuals who have worked with them. (feel free to ask, I have loads)
- Understand their coaching approach. Whether you prefer a structured program or more personalized one-on-one sessions, make sure their style aligns with your preferences and needs. It's so important to work with someone you believe in.
- Schedule an initial consultation or discovery call to gauge whether you feel comfortable and connected with the coach.
Remember, finding the right career coach is a personalized journey. No amount of cold DM's will make you comfortable should you decide to enlist help.
Take your time to explore your options, ask questions, and trust your instincts. When you find the right fit and an approach you can buy into, you'll end up getting the guidance and support you need.
