Really interesting article from my Vickery Holman colleague Alice Williams on National Landscapes â formally known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). Did you know there are 5 of them in #Devon? The name change aligns with ambitious goals to contribute significantly to the international â30 by 30â commitment, which aims to conserve a minimum of 30% of land and sea for biodiversity by 2030. https://lnkd.in/gF26yHHq

Sustain nature's contributions to people! Biodiversity is critical to human wellbeing, but it is rapidly declining, particularly in landscapes that have been modified by humans, e.g. cities. With disappearing biodiversity, the vital services that it provides are lost. In a recent article [One Earth 7 (2024) 59-71], the authors assess the minimum level of (semi-)natural habitat in agricultural and urban areas required to sustain nature's contribution to people. They found that at least 20%-25% of habitat per km2 is required. Only 1/3 of global human-modified lands meet this threshold. Human-modified land play a critical role in supporting human well-being as well as in conserving biodiversity. The benefits from Natureâs Contributions to People or ecosystem services are ample, but unfortunately overlooked. On local level, loss of biodiversity is evident even in forest-covered Finland, e.g. in Helsinki, where urban forests are cut to enable more construction, and restoration of nature is seldom a preferred option. Broader targets for conservation efforts would be welcome here. Sadly to say, too often economic interests still overrun the nature and environment. #biodiversity #sustainability #ecosystemservices #ecosystemrestoration #cityplanning #helsinki Ympäristöministeriö - Miljöministeriet - Ministry of the Environment of Finland Helsingin seudun ympäristöpalvelut HSY Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) - Suomen ympäristökeskus (Syke) https://lnkd.in/dfPdPfY6

Today marks the International Day for Biodiversity, a time to celebrate the incredible richness of our planet's ecosystems. Costa Rica stands as a remarkable example, boasting nearly 6% of the worldâs biodiversity. From the diverse landscapes of Guanacaste to the lush rainforests of Monteverde and the pristine beaches of the Osa Peninsula, this country is a treasure trove of unique habitats and endemic species. At ADAPTIVA, we recognize the critical importance of preserving these invaluable ecosystems. Through our commitment to regenerative design, we strive to protect and enhance Costa Rica's natural wonders. Our approach focuses on three key strategies: - Biodiversity Conservation - Water Stewardship - Renewable Energy Integration Join us in honoring the diversity of life on Earth and reaffirming our dedication to its protection. Together, let's pave the way for a sustainable future for generations to come. ð #WorldBiodiversityDay #CostaRica #RegenerativeDesign

ð Celebrating International Day of Biodiversity! ð¿ Today, we join the global community in celebrating the International Day for Biodiversity. At #tier3solutions, we are deeply committed to preserving and enhancing the rich tapestry of life on our planet. Biodiversity is the foundation of a healthy ecosystem, and it's essential for the well-being of all living creatures, including us. Our dedicated team works tirelessly on innovative solutions to support biodiversity through sustainable practices and advanced environmental technologies. We believe that sustainable management of biodiversity is only possible in cooperation with farmers and city developers. Competent consultation is an important way of supporting food producers as well as urban planners in the implementation of measures to enhance biodiversity. Here are some of the ways we contribute: ð± Environmental Impact Assessments: We conduct thorough assessments to ensure that projects minimize their impact on local ecosystems. ð¦ Conservation Projects: We actively participate in and support various monitoring and conservation initiatives aimed at protecting endangered species and habitats. ð¦ Research and Development: Our R&D efforts focus on developing new methods and technologies to monitor and enhance biodiversity. By integrating these practices into our daily operations, we aim to create a positive impact and drive change towards a more sustainable future. Letâs celebrate the diversity of life today and every day. Together, we can make a difference! #BiodiversityDay #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #Conservation #SustainableFuture

The Benefit of enhancing onsite biodiversity. With Biodiversity Net Gain rules now in force for larger schemes in England, we will be on the search for ways to include more âgreenâ space in our projects. Of course, on our high-density sites the amount of landscape to our disposal can be minimal and the strategy of âoffsettingâ is being used, widely. It really should always be our first aim to improve the biodiversity value onsite because purchasing land, potentially miles away from the project in question, to secure itâs biodiversity value is not only costly but defeats the object of enhancing biodiversity levels in our city environments. It also prevents future development on such land. The use of Urban Green Infrastructure such as a living roof with bin & cycle storage is one key way to enhance values onsite before we are forced to look elsewhereâ. #BiodiversityNetGain #biodiversity #GreenInfrastructure #development #provendesign

ð£ We are excited to announce that we have listed Wilder Carbon's projects on the Kana Directory. ð¿ Wilder Carbon have developed the mechanism for locking up additional carbon through restoration of native habitat through reinstatement of natural processes. The Wilder Carbon Standard ensures that high-quality conservation projects delivered in the UK result in long-term carbon lock-up and real biodiversity gains.  ð³ This marks a significant milestone for Kana as we continue to make our vision a reality: to scale nature restoration and protection by developing the software to make natural capital an investable asset class. The Wilder Carbon projects featured on the Kana Directory bring a rich diversity to the platform, which seeks to showcase all high-integrity carbon and biodiversity methodologies. EMBRACE THE RETURN Latest EcoMeme goes live Tuesday 11th June. Halt the Decline, Embrace the Return! The Nature Positive and 30x30 initiatives are ambitious global conservation efforts aimed at halting and reversing biodiversity loss. Nature Positive is a broad framework that seeks to enhance biodiversity by ensuring that nature is in a better state by 2030 compared to 2020, promoting activities that restore and sustainably manage natural ecosystems. The 30x30 initiative is an international conservation effort and goal incorporated into the Global Biodiversity Framework and aimed at protecting 30% of the planet's lands and oceans by the year 2030. The 30x30 initiative emphasises the importance of conserving critical habitats, protecting endangered species, and maintaining ecosystem services. This EcoMeme pays homage to a series of digital paintings called Skulls of Luci created by artist Sam Spratt. More details on Sam's work in the comments below ð Our aim is to build the world's best biodiversity credit market, one that recognises the true value of nature, results in an equitable distribution of benefits and empowers local communities along the way!
