https://lnkd.in/dDUBqar2 Love the initiative. Rehabilitation of weakened and destroyed coral reefs, assisting their regrowth. One of the biggest issues facing our oceans currently aside from over exploitation of resources, is pollution leading to ocean acidification. I have been passionate about this and how we can at least minimise this and the negative impact the changes in pH levels are having on coral reefs, CaCO3 breakdown in shells and also thus shell formation in the future and on olfactory cues in fish. Studies have been done and the levels are actively being monitored, but what is actually being done on land, in the rivers and water systems flowing into the seas and oceans and about active dumping ? The truth is if we solve the water pollution issue it helps partly cope with the carbon issue...given the ocean is a natural carbon sink and regulator of the earth but is over saturated due to chemicals in pollutants. I still hope to somehow work in a line of ecology on the ground that could in some way also contribute towards causes and related research like this and to combat complex ecological and socio ecological issues both terrestrial and freshwater as well as at the coastlines.

Incredibly, Yak herding communities absorb more carbon than they emit. Yak herding is considered an identity of the mountain communities and an example of sustainable natural resource management. It is a part of the culture that supports the livelihoods of Tibetan herders and maintains the rangeland ecosystem. The seasonal upwards and downwards movement at the beginning of the summer and winter seasons, respectively, are the festivals for mountain communities. In addition, such movements allow time for the natural restoration of vegetation and maintain the quality of the pastures. Grazing by yaks helps to maintain the rangeland functions and enhances plant species richness by promoting energy and nutrient flow and controlling undesirable species. #ResponsibleYakLeather #YakLeatherDiplomacy #CarbonCapture

This short movie from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, a work of art by Sourland Studios, beautifully captures this inspiring message of the perils of our planet and the significance of the rematriation movement. It is an inspiring story of the partnership that led to the Cohanzick Nature Reserve. The rematriation of lands to local Indigenous people, a significant pillar of the rematriation movement, is crucial for protecting our cultural heritage, preserving traditional knowledge, and fostering environmental sacred symbiosis rooted in centuries-old practices. The rematriation of the Cohanzick Nature Reserve marks a significant step in a nationwide movement, and how our collaborative efforts by the Native American Advancement Corporation (NAAC), New Jersey Conservation Foundation, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Green Acres Program, and The Nature Conservancy, can heal historical injustices. Acquired in August 2023, this 63-acre forested property in New Jersey returns to the Cohanzick Lenape people, the land's original inhabitants. This initiative honors our enduring connection to the land. It sets a precedent for similar efforts across the country, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in promoting social justice and sacred environmental symbiosis. Humans are natural beings and therefore are goverened by natural laws. If we respect ourselves, our family and friends, our societies, others right to be happy and flourish, other civilizations, the earth we live on, we must respect nature! Unforntunately THIS initiative is only in the UK! Global progress starts somewhere and moves slowly, but Nature always wins. We win when our motivations are inline with nature. An ancient Korean communal philosophy called "Hong-ik" is the understanding that when other life wins, we win also! Traditional Ecological Knowledge is so important because it looks at everything wholistically. Literally, EVERYTHING is connected. If you want to do a project right, it needs to be done with a wholistic approach, otherwise, you have results like we have today where cities are built in flood plains and tsunami threat areas, homes are built with the inability to be resilient to the climate that they are impacted by, and sustenance sources are suffering because they've been flooded by destruction from industry and sprawl. Take a look at this awesome story map done by Snoqualmie Tribe! I just love this reference to two-eyed seeing. We all need to learn how to look with both eyes. Each side has an important story that needs to be told to be able to see the entire image and find solutions for all.
